Really?
Where did this "saying" come from? When did people start saying this? You hear it everywhere now! I first heard "really" in a commercial, now I hear it in movies, NFL games, talkshows, you name it. I think it's overused already.
Really?
really?...we really needed a thread for this?
LOL, I don't watch SNL, so is this where "really" all started?
I mean really! Don't respond!
r-e-a-l-l-y existed before saturday night live.
One of the science teachers at my middle school (this would have 10+ years ago) used it all the time like that and he was certainly not the type to be on the cutting edge of modern lingo. It's nothing new, that's for sure.
It's a word, not a saying. And perhaps there's something recent that made it especially popular, but people have been using it this way for as long as I can remember. Kind of a go-to snarky/dismissive response.
I had a principle in high school who'd ask a question sarcastically, followed by "Really?... REALLY?!" and a "PROVE IT!" as a catch phrase. We're talking like as old as 15 years ago.
We'd mock him endlessly. He was from Muleshoe, Texas, so maybe that's the answer?
I think it is a one word saying and yeah it has been around for years.
I used it before Seth and Amy did that, i just put more emphasis on the 'really" now that it's a tad more recognizable.
Apparently a long time ago... Actual prehistoric cave art:

Without seeing the OP's name I thought Gutter started this thread.
wait...![]()
LOL, I guess that's what happens when you're life is nothing but work, work, work!! You lose touch with what's happening around you.![]()
What about the hot chick in the Windows phone commercial that is wearing some sexy black lingerie trying to get her husband to screw her?
That's hot. Really! - see how I used the word differently.
Just to give ya'll another example, I was changing channels and came across a Professional Bowlers Tournament. One of the bowlers rolled a bad shot. The bowler was miked, so you could hear him when he said "really?" This saying might've been around for along time, but I've just never heard anyone say that until recently. I know what they're trying to say, but still. Just think it's kind of corny!
Lol really.... really? Making a thread about the word "really", really that worth it?
Watching that makes me realize just how terrible SNL REALLY is. It hasn't been funny or decent since the mid-90s.
