I never really understood what the big deal was. In comedy the doors are wide open and from what I can see they was just doing a "comedy" skit.

But my guess is the overly paranoid program director wanted no part of having to deal with any controversy or attorneys and decided to pull the plug and show how the Ticket 760 does not support any or all of what the "comedy" skit presented.

or......maybe the Ticket was already looking for a way to cut corners and this was the perfect opportunity to get rid of some paychecks without looking like the bad guy.

Maybe I will call in Thursday and ask Paul his takes on the matter. After all i like the vato and want to support him in every way.
Wally was the program director. Eric Gray got fired and these guys got canned two days later.

The big deal was that Clear Channel was a huge sponsor of the Spurs and the Spurs said they wanted those guys off the air. Not to mention the Spurs were playing the Nuggets in the playoffs at the time.

It's like with anything, things blow over.

I was listening to the Morning Drive on my way to the ATT center and if I created and Andy Everett "Um" Drinking Game, I'd be ed up in the first five minutes. That guy mixes in more "Um" than any person I know. It's board line insane.

Should be good though with walter and Greco. Looking forward to actually hearing some that makes sense.

    Mouse,

You know I have nothin' but love for ya pal. By the way, those t-shirts and bumper stickers you're talking about, $50 gets you both pal.

BTW, as far as mentioning ST, you know that can't work, but I have mentioned the guys names from here like Big Z and Joey (4-Toes) Chalupa as well as Paki.

    Where there's a will, there's a way pal!!!

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll be bringing the energy, humor and style you're looking for Mouse. If not, I'll buy you a beer pal since you never take your ass out anymore.

Why? Peter Burns mentioned SpursTalk all the time on his show on the Ticket.

Why do you think it "can't work"?

Are you sure, I though Tim Merriam took over for Andrew Ashwood as program director. You have more info?

When i first met Paul I could tell he was out of the loop or in the dark.
He was a very cool vato and had so much energy and sports knowledge to bring to the radio I already knew he would have a hard time finding work.

The ticket seems to go after the lame, uneducated, not that funny but willing to work for 10 dollars an hour crew.

I told Paul I would love to call in but i was told by Tim Merriman after I criticized the tickets commercial about Mrs. Green a black lady that would clean up after Wally and others in her very black uneducated stereotype voice.

He then ran me off the air and told the crew not to take my calls. I may still have it on tape somewhere in storage.

Paul said i was over reacting and to call in. Paul did not know about SR and the WOAI feuds. he didn't know much about the Chris Duel Peter Burns meltdowns, basically he was a fish out of water.

So he may say things just because he is still in the dark and may not want to jeopardize any future employment.

I still believe Kori made huge mistakes not taking up the many offers to do sports radio.

PG is doing just fine and his show on Sirius reaches a larger listening audience. I have confidence he will get a local radio spot in the future.

That makes more sense. I knew he was at Woai I figured the ticket might have subbed out the work to Tim. Wally I don't see but I had to give Nathan the benefit of the doubt since many interns and ex employees still post here.

You guys still have private gtgs with Nate and the gang?

Sorry my bad! I figured since you haven't had any public GTgs since that private Halloween party with the program director of clear channel the rest of the GTgs were by PMs only.

maybe you can still do a once a week Spurs talk radio show with Duel and Jason if you ever get bored.

I can only tell you what I was told. Because SR is owned by the Ticket760 and WOAI I was told not to discuss ST on air. So instead, I mention people by name. It's the closest thing I could get to mentioning things.

Being on radio is just like any other business.

For instance, mouse is a P.I.M.P and he has hos out there that work for him, I'm sure he'd hate the fact the Big Z is also a P.I.M.P. If Big Z heard his girls talking about mouse, I'm sure he'd get a little bent. Same thing with the Ticket760.

It's one of those things you have to respect.

But I'll be banging it out tomorrow and Friday.

    Topics for tomorrow are :

    1) Spurs at Clippers
    2) Return of LeBron to Cleveland
    3) Texans at Eagles
    4) Baseball HOF and is Jeff Bagwell a 1st time HOF
    maybe
    - Mike Leach and The U
    - Cam Newton

Props for manning up but..... you should use the PM feature since the Ticket could use this topic as evidence against you for talking about 760's private matters.

Unless you shared a bong hit with the program director like Tim did then in that case,.... carry on!

Not that I care that much but SpursReport isn't own by the Ticket/WOAI. They have (or had) a loose advertising relationship with them but that's it. At one point there was someone in Ticket/WOAI's ad department that was going around telling everyone that SR was owned by them and that ST was owned by ESPN. But that was just a bunch of weird crap. Both sites are still independently owned.

I wrote for WOAI.com (TV side) and had press credentials through them for five years until I quit in 2008. I was a part of Game Night React for years and I helped their radio guys get sound bytes from the locker room up until I stopped going to games two years ago.

The Ticket personalities (even you - and I don't mean it in a bad way) have always used ST to pimp their shows/events etc. Anyway, I don't really care if you do or don't mention ST on air. ST doesn't benefit from that kind of relationship at all -- we already have the traffic.

Sorry, ed that one up. The article I linked to said Wally was the sports director, not program director. I read it later at night and it stuck to me that way.

Either way, I remember the Wally and Vex days, but I didn't hear the bit. I saw it on ESPN.com the next day, which means it was quite a story.

But the one thing I always remembered was that Clear Channel dismissed them because of the Spurs. Pop even stopped doing a segment with them because of it. Clear Channel really didn't have a choice, especially since they have a broadcast contract with the Spurs that I'm sure they wanted to keep.

Kori - great post! BTW I don't take anything personally so no problem pointing out the pimping.

I can tell you this, from day, I'm the fan that fell into radio. I'm one of the lucky ones who has been fortunate enough to get a chance in radio and rock it out. That being said, that's why I like hanging with Joe C, Paki, Mouse, Big Z. I'm the regular guy who speaks his mind and rolls with it. The only difference is mouse is, well still mouse, and I'm not. That makes me ok with myself.

So, for me, if they tell me, hey, don't mention that on the air, I'm not going to rock boat. There are other ways to mention things than just coming out and saying it.

It's easy. You just bring energy, strong takes, and don't step on your johnson during the show!

I don't think they didn't have a choice I think they went into damage control mode and over reacted. After all no one pressed charges and no one was ask to show up in court. if Chris Rock and Howard Stern did the same skit we all laugh and move on.

if what Wally did was so wrong why is he still working with the station? Are you saying there are different levels of bad behavior? I shoot a man with two bullets you shoot a man with only one bullet so I have to leave the radio show twice as long as you? Where is Jeff Vexler and Eric Gray? Don't they deserve their jobs back if Wally is back?

Anyway that is for someone like Jesse Ventura to investigate. One thing i will say about all this bull on what websites you can talk about and who's phone calls you will or will not take is some of the most childish crap i have ever seen.

All radio shows and websites can only help each other by uniting as a huge family. Do you see MySpace telling its members they can't have a facebook page?
Does Firefox block out MSN hotmail, does Best buy Geek squad turn down working on laptops purchased from Office Depot?

radio,Tv,and newspaper people are some of the most back stabbing assholes out there, and the funny thing is they have no problem admitting it.
