Honestly, anybody really thought the team would hand out a guaranteed 3 year deal if they weren't really high on this guy?
I think he has the potential to defend 4's better than Bonner ever will. Some would argue he's already doing that. Ultimately, if he has no time to improve on the court actually defending and getting to know the compe ion, it's going to be awfully difficult for him to get there.
As far as his offense, he's certainly not worse than Oberto. We have enough scoring as it is, I think. We need more/better D from him.

For little as Pop uses Splitter, he would've been better off leaving him in Europe. What's the point of having the guy on the roster, if the coach is joined at the hip with Bonner.
I'm sure Splitter must be thinking.. "I went to all this trouble to come here to play in the nba and yet here I sit on the bench behind this red-haired doofus I could school all day & night. WTF, man."
Good thing we at least got Tiago at a discount...![]()
When Fin lost a step, he became excellent shooter. He was extremely consistent, even when shooting low % one could count with at least 1 or 2 treys every game. Bonner sometimes shots great, but also often goes something like 0-4 or 0-6 on open looks, more so in the playoffs.
There are some players like Finley, Barry, Mason, Bonner... who Pop put in the category "great shooters" as soon as they are signed. Once they are put in this category, there are some automatic consequences:
- They get a lot of playing time.
- Even if they are bad at everything except shooting, they still get playing time.
- They get the green light to take as much shoot as they want. They will never be blamed for jacking up threes. Pop will only be mad as them if they don't take an open jump-shoot.
- When they are in a shooting slump, they continue to get playing time and Pop continue to ask them to shoot the ball. Pop takes care a lot about their confidence.
- Pop is very patient with them. It takes a damn lot of sucking to reach the point where they are in the doghouse.
That's one of the few thing I don't like with Pop: He overrates shooting and gives a special treatment to players he has labeled as great shooters.
^^^ Get Barrdog out of that category.
2 for 3 on Championships before Popped started his affairs.
Which is precisely WHY the Spurs have morphed into a team that jacks up the most 3's per game than any other team in the NBA. The over-reliance on the 3-ball is a potential "achilles heel" of this team. During the Clippers game, there were a couple of instances where they passed up clean layups, just so they could kick the ball back to the arc for a 3-ball attempt.
bonner even gets abused by scrubs like craig smith
you see smith take bonner to the hole, like he was an allstar
i agree. and those cowards that call themselves reporters, and the "real spurs fans" are nothing but cowards for never questioning pop. im sure those guys are happy with whats going on in a america as well, typical sheeple. lmao!!!yet they think theyre so smart eating whats fed to them on a daily basis.

seriopusly its gotten to the point of me hoping for a bonner back spasm because im sure splitter is going to talk to pop and then its all over. and then all you guys who suck up to pop will be in heaven cause well have bonner locked up yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Splitter meet Pop's doghouse!

Hey, I said fire Pop a long time ago.
The Spurs would never lose a game if he was fired.
No one can argue against this.
meh, anybody got a disgruntled Greek on their team that wants to go home?
At least we could get some cap relief for Splitter.![]()
I would have either had dice or splitter in the last mins of the game....bonner was crap last night
POP keeps Bonner in the games for 2 simple reasons.. One is that Bonner spreads the floor which makes it easier for the rest of the team to move around.. I like Splitter, he has been a good pick up but cannot create the space needed on the floor like Bonner..
His Defense might be suspect but he is a fighter out on the court.. Splitter will get his time so just be patient.. I take the choices made from a professional and trust them, they haven't let us down yet...
Sure there are times when Bonner should be pulled and Splitter brought in but up to this point Bonner has played extremely well...
If Bonner was black he would not be in the NBA.
Or at least not getting any minutes.
I predicted this exactly when the Spurs gave Boner that big fat contract this offseason.
You're full of . Every single one of your points is laughably wrong.
Bonner is supposed to absorb some big man minutes during the regular season, IMO, saving TD, McD, Blair.
Using Bonner for 30 minutes against the Clippers was not the problem. Losing to the Clippers -- no matter who is playing -- that was the problem.
The real barometer will be Dec. 28. If Pop uses Bonner 30 minutes against the Lakers (and Splitter 7 min), then I'm officially worried.
Yes Bonner is our new Finley.
I wouldn't put Barry in this category. I thought that Pop pulled him too quickly after his defensive mistakes. Besides, Barry brought more to the table than shooting - ball-handling and passing. I remember getting mad at Barry only once (compared to the countless times for the others) - when he passed to TD on a fast break before mid-court during the 05 Finals, but all is forgiven
Yep, I knew this would happen.
He should taking TD and Dice's minutes - not Splitter's. I'd like to see Dice play against the weaker team on back-to-backs and TD play against the stronger team with neither playing 2 days in a row.
Yep, in the playoffs unlike the choking Bonner.
Has been the new Finley for going on two years.
