yeah its a supercell formation on the plains. you can see the mesocyclone perfectly. its due to wind updraft being skewed by upper level winds so theres not a steady distribution of air (not much of a downdraft). the storm really blows up and a mesocyclone (swirl) forms and kicks the out of anything in its path. i emailed that link yesterday to my weather and climate prof to see if i could brown nose some extra credit lol.
That is pretty cool.
You dont see things like this on Storm Chasers
btw...i love storm chasers!
That is one ing amazing photo.
I think this image won for the National Geographic call for amateur entries.
This is from the following site: www.extremeinstability.com
My favorite weather photos of all-time are on this site. Some are better than the above.
This guy is amazing.![]()
Look at the raging inflow there. Sick.
Perfect explanation. A tornado is an extension of that circulation all the way to the ground.
You do somewhat, but not as wide as that because they're underneath that formation most of the time on SC trying to get into a tornado. My one beef with SC is how they cut and paste footage from different storms into one chase but I still love that show.
Wow.. some of those pictures are incredible.
Especially that last one, CH

The most awesome thing about that is the way it looks like a hand is reaching out of it to stick the lightning in the clouds.
