One of the highlights of the first full month of the N.B.A. season was the outstanding play of the league’s top point guards. This seems to be a golden age for the position, with young stars like Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo, Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook and Deron Williams mixed in with savvy veterans like Jason Kidd and Steve Nash. This has sparked an age-old debate: Who is the best point guard in the N.B.A.?
Derrick Rose and Russell Westbrook are both in their third year in the N.B.A., and their production this season represents a major improvement over their first two seasons. Three years from now I would not be surprised if this debate comes down to Rose versus Westbrook, but for now neither player has the track record to be considered the best point guard in the league.
The veterans Jason Kidd, a 10-time All Star, and Steve Nash, a two-time Most Valuable Player, have lengthy records of success, but neither is competing at the level of players like Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Plus, Kidd and Nash are 37 and 36 years old, respectively, and it is unlikely that they will be able to maintain this level of play much longer.
Eliminating Rose, Westbrook, Kidd and Nash leaves us with four candidates: Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Rajon Rondo and Deron Williams.
To help compare the performances of these players I am going to introduce two new statistics. The first, steal percentage, is an estimate of the number of steals the player records per 100 opponent possessions. The second, win shares per 48 minutes, is an estimate of the number of wins the player generates per 48 minutes played (the league average for this statistic is 0.100).

Deron Williams
Deron
CP
Rose
Rondo
TP
Chris Paul
Deron Williams
Tony Parker
Derrick Rose
Rajon Rondo
Russell Westbrook
Good list, in that order as well. Though if CP3 keeps dropping off in the 4th I'd put Rose ahead of him.
If we are not going by just reputation but by how they are currently playing it's a crime not to have Russell Westbook on that list.
Sounds kinda homerish to have TP there and not Westbrook.
TP has 3 rings + 1 finals mvp, he doesn't care about the nba's best point guard and me neither.
I feel I can post whatever I want wherever I want it's a forum dude
I like paradoxes
CP3 and Williams dont have Duncan and Manu
well as far as I know bb is a team game, nobody is winning alone. Not TP's fault if Utah and NO suck.
I'm pretty sure Duncan and Manu are more than happy to play with TP.
I'm messing with you![]()
Dwill... you can close this thread now.
I like Williams better and if I had to choose one of the two for the next ten years, I'd take Williams, because he's bigger, stronger and will probably be more durable. But the correct answer is Paul. He's not even all the way back yet and he's still lead the league in PER basically from day one.
Right now, i'll go with:
1. DWILL
2. WESTBROOK
3. CPAUL
4. ROSE/RONDO/PARKER
If any of them was playing with Tim and Manu (and 4 the spurs) they would have less impressive stats!
Specially assists (Tim = lots of postups=fewer assists, and along with Manu, he's also a playmaker)
Spurs systems = Find the right guy, few catch and shoot" (at least before this year)...
And less playing time (Pop) = no garbage time to make your stast look good...
I'm not saying TP is better than them (I think he's not), but it's very complicated to compare and there are lot of "speculation"/"what would he do at his place"...
For example, I still think Rondo is WAAAAYY overrated!!
He is very good, but wouldn't be able to do what either Paul, Deron, Tony or Rose do in their respective teams. He is not a reliable scorer and even less reliable jump shooter. He makes Tony look great at the FT line!!!
I'll go with
1A Paul
1B Deron
2A Rose
2B TP
3A Rondo (Defense)
3B Nash (Offense)
