    no he isn't.

the guy named dirk who led the mavs to the finals in '06 is not the dirk we're talking about right now.

also the dirk who leads his team in scoring almost every night since 2001 isn't the dirk we're talking about here..

this dirk right here will never be a leader, because he never was

in term of dirks efficiency: lol @ dwight howard almost having the same FG% as dirk, even though he scores most of his buckets on dunks and hook shots around the basket..and dirk is fading away on one leg around the freethrow line most of the time lol
I'm not talking about leading the team in scoring. I'm talking about the kind of leader who makes everyone around him better. The kind of leader who will not wilt under pressure, and when the chips are down will strap his team on his back and carry them to victory.

That might happen with Dirk on and off through the regular season, but it's been proven over and over that that magic isn't there in the playoffs, when it's all on the line. Something is glaringly absent for him there.

Nowitzki doesn't really get as many calls as people think, when you compare him to other star players..

Kobe is the gold standard for jump shooting phantom fouls, and Dirk doesn't come close..you can say the same about Durant..84% off Kobe's shot attempts are jump shots outside the paint, yet he somehow draws 8 free throws a game..85% of Durant's shot attempts are jump shots, yet he draws 9 free throws a game..Nowtizki has 85% to 6 FTAs..

If you look at it from a career standpoint, the difference is even more significant..

Dirk gets his superstar calls, but he has never been on the phantom level of guys like Kobe and Durant..

As for the Spurs and Mavs, I'd be shocked if either is 1st round fodder, and they're the only 2 in the West that could potentially give LA a run..

Dont disagree completely ...but if you watch the games, Durant and Kobe are much beter than dirk at initiating contact on their jumpshots. Durant does the same Kobe swim through move that draws contact. all supertars get calls, so drawing lines is bull . Kobe and durant are also volume shooters so of course they are gonna get more FTA attempts per game Dirk is more efficient as a shooter. To just look at FTA attempts per game is pretty asinine if you do not also include the number of FGAs ...
Kobe and durant go in to the contact a great deal, dirk fades on his shot much more than Kobe and way more than durant.
if you are fading away from contact, you are less likely to draw a foul than if you go straight up or jump in to defender ...

For one year I'd take Dirk over Kobe, Lebron, Gasol and Durant. I'd probably take Dwight Howard's no offense having ass over Dirk but that's mainly because he's a better fit on the Spurs.

Oh, and I'd take Manu over Dirk. Only because I've never seen David West walk up and touch his face.

    Oh, !!

So you are whining and pulling your Kobe obsession into an argument because he gets one more call a game than Dirk? WOW. You also failed to point out that both Kobe and Durant average 4 and 2 more shots per game respectively. And what about the nature of their shots? You can simply attribute the extra foul they get by the fact they have learned to quickly swing their arms trough opposing players extended arms on their jumshots while Dirk primarily falls away and is about as quick as you grandmother doing so. If that isn't good enough then maybe you sould consider that both players are more mobile than Dirk and will tend to get more off screen fouls or a number of other scenarios that can easily explain the 2 gargantuan free throws more a game a lot better than your obsessive jealous rantings.

The one astronomical shooting foul difference is more a matter of how each player plays the game and their skill sets with their shot selection rather than anything to do with phantom calls. What a lame argument. But considering the source...

Tbh I'm not sure what Christopher Reeves is rambling about, Kobe does get a lot of phantom calls on jumpers.

You can bring up all the numbers you want, it's the caliber of the calls, though, and there is no stat for that. Only the eye test suffices.

I hate Bryant as much as anyone and there's no question he get's a lot of superstar calls, but at least he's one of the fifteen best players of all-time, a five time champion and, in the past, at least, got a lot of his calls going to the basket. It doesn't make it right, but that's par for the course when you take that into account.

Who the is Nowitzki? Future Hall-of-Famer, no question, but I mean in the grand scheme of things, is he ever going to be mentioned amongst the greatest players of all-time? No matter how many people slobber over him or how many relatively meaningless regular season points he piles up, the answer is no. On top of that, he's never been known to be consistently aggressive or attacking. A lot of his shots are mid post fade and fallaways. There is no good explanation for the amount of respect he get's.

He'll go down as one of the best shooters of all time. Considering he's a 7-footer, that's unheard of. There's never been a player his size with his skill set. The Mavs haven't won any les, but they have been one of the best teams of the past decade, and it's because of Dirk.
