Report: Elder Scrolls V Coming Soon

    http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/the-elder-s...1136329p1.html

It's been four years since Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion took RPGers on an epic adventure, but according to a new report, fans won't be waiting much longer for Bethesda to unveil the fifth game in the franchise.

Eurogamer, citing its Denmark editor-in-chief who spoke with an unnamed source close to Bethesda, reports that Elder Scrolls V is now in the works and it's a direct sequel to Oblivion.

"The sequel to Oblivion is coming, we can hereby confirm without hesitation. It's been a while since 2006, hasn't it?" Eurogamer reports.

"This source not only confirmed that the game is in current production, but also spoke briefly about the content -- with fantasy-sounding phrases like Dragon Lord, something with The Blades -- and that voice acting for the characters in the game is currently happening in the weeks to follow."

"The same source confirmed, with official game do ents in hand, that this will be the chronological sequel to what happened in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which is the latest game in the now 16-years-old Elder Scrolls saga and by itself one of the better RPGs for PC and consoles."

Eurogamer goes on to state that Elder Scrolls V has been in development for two years and Bethesda plans to make an official announcement about the game "soon."

What the ? Two years between releasing Oblivion and starting on Elder Scrolls V? I hope it's not coming soon, as 2 years development time for a game of that complexity is ridiculous.

I've read rumors that state it's been in development for more like 4 years. My guess is it will be a year or so from announcement to when the game actually releases

I like Morrowind better only because of the expansion packs.

Shivering Isles was lame and I thought the new land mass was not very interesting. Also, it felt like a chore doing the quests for shivering isles. The only good thing IMHO was the dungeon that you get to reactivate and torture some adventurers.

I dunno, I liked Shivering Isles. Granted, I have Oblivion for PS3, so that plus Knights of the Nine is all I get, but still. Sheogorath never fails to make me laugh, especially when you do his shrine quest mid-Shivering Isles questline.

Did Oblivion get the mass user-made stuff that Morrowind did?

I still play Morrowind when I feel like wasting an entire day. Created new races and stuff, like a mini-orc that was a god at alchemy and conjuration and just started a mission to kill every NPC in the game. So the island is a deserted wasteland. LOL.

    Awesome

After playing through Bethesda games a few times, I always do one where I make it my duty to kill everyone I can possibly find. Fun stuff

The battles in villages/towns when offing NPC's can become epic in a big hurry

I hope they bring back the climbing skill like in Daggerfall. It was always awesome to scale a building and break in through the 2nd floor, or scale the city walls at night to gain entry, or climb walls in dungeons to get to new sections.

Did this in Oblivion recently. Put on the Gray Cowl of Nocturnal, walked into Bravil and proceeded to waste the entire town using my Dark Elf's bare hands. Hi-larious.

Say goodbye to those types of games.

Executives look at all the mountain of content in a game like Oblivion, and look at the long development cycle, and they think "We are wasting money"

I fully expect a trimmed down game with less features, smaller world to explore, etc....

Like a poster up above said, the game's actually been in development for quite some time already.

Bethesda has been doing The Elder Scrolls games since 1992. they released Arena for DOS in 1994 and I bought it as soon as it hit the Shelves.... 1996 saw Daggerfall which was, for the time, probably the single largest game ever released, not just in scope but in file size. I remember to do the Full install, it was something like 200mb during a time when most people had 500mb HDDs and top of the line HDD's where barely starting to reach the 1GB mark.

ElderScrolls Wiki puts Daggerfalls world on scale with the same size as Great Britain.

The Elder Scrolls series is what "made" Bethesda software what they are today.... They are not gonna scale it back like they attempted back in the late 90's with Battlespire and Redguard adventures.

You dont follow up a game like Oblivion and Fallout 3 with a smaller game. Now that Bethesda has ID Software, and although they are letting ID do their own thing, Im sure they consult with Carmack and might even use the source engine for Rage or Brink or something like that for the Next Elderscrolls. The Gamebryo engine is starting to show its age.

    Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Announced

    http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/elder-scrolls-v/1139822p1.html

At this evening's e Video Game Awards, Bethesda's Todd Howard finally announced the fifth entry in the developer's celebrated Elder Scrolls role-playing series.

Called Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the long-awaited sequel will take place soon after the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Rumors had surfaced a few weeks ago that the game would be a direct sequel to Oblivion, and some references to the best-selling 2006 release's conclusion in a brief trailer shown at the VGAs confirmed that that is indeed the case. This was later confirmed by Pete Hines, Bethesda's VP of PR and Marketing, on his Twitter account.

The game's le would indicate that the action takes place in Skyrim, one of the nine provinces on the continent of Tamriel, where each of the Elder Scrolls games took place.

The trailer also revealed the game's release date: November 11th, 2011 or 11/11/11. Easy enough to remember, no?

I don't know where I stand. I don't care for the enemies to get stronger as you gain strength but I hate the farming practice to get anywhere in a game.
