i just bought appletv for my parents for xmas. i wish i got myself one but i don't really need it. now those old farts can watch their netflix instant on their tv and other too. i'm going to jailbreak this in a minute so they can watch other formats that aren't supported.
anyone own an aTV?
If it was just for netflix, you should have looked at roku. Even for other you could have gone with roku. The only reason that I returned my roku is that it doesnt play local media, got the wdtv live plus (already own a wdtv live).
edit: apple tv is only 99 dollars, right? if so, then I guess it isn't that big of a deal. roku (depending on the model) would have saved you only 20-40 dollars. The apple tax is low on this one.

i like mine a lot. i'll hack it when I can, but I just queue everything up in handbrake and leave. having a touch or iphone for a remote is ideal. pushing media to it with one of the two is also quite awesome.
that's what i figured... my step brother stays with my parents every other weekend and he has an iphone, so i figured if he wanted to stream to the box he could with that. also, i burn them movies all the time and am sick of wasting discs just so they can watch some movies. i thought, i'd send a flash drive to them with movies and they can stream to the box as well. also, they don't use netflix streaming because their computers aren't new and their monitors suck and they won't sit in front of a computer anyhow to watch movies so at least this way they can do netflix streaming on the box too.
for the price, i figured it was a good deal. i didn't realize how in' small this box is though. is smaller than a cd case!
yeah it's barely bigger than a hockey puck. it also upconverts everything streamed to it to 720p, which is nice for older videos like my season 1 and 2 venture rips

The AppleTV interface is very slick and intuitive. iTunes on Windows may not be the best, but you have no idea what you are talking about, as usual.

I won't say that agree or disagree with the first part of your post, but its Apple. A computer/electronics company. Therefore this thread is partially about software.
can you watch shows about calf tats on aTV? perhaps even a program on the life and times of a male secretary?
I don't know but if I was a betting man I'd bet that you could get all your favorite gay porn on it. Still not worth it to you symple? And if not you could always stream the male on male action you got stored on your pc to that little black box.
