the difference is that one guard is taller than the other
yet Dirk is criticized for not having a post game, while old senile idiots like Jerry West proclaim that Kobe has one of the best post games in the NBA?
-Both players can hit the turn around from the post. By virtue of his size, Dirk's actually more effective with this move.
-Both players can turn in and drive from the post. Obviously, Kobe does this more effectively, being the quicker and more athletic player.
-Neither player has a variety of sophisticated post moves like the Hakeem's and McHale's. Both players have a very standard, but effective, repertoire of post maneuvers, but again, to hear the media and fans talk, you'd think Dirk is simply a jumpshooter and that Kobe is a 6'5" version of Kareem.
The only things that separates the two is Kobe's footwork is cleaner and more fundamental, but not enough to where you'd say he's a much better post player than Nowitzki.

and that's exactly why he's a pussy...Dirk being 7 ft with no low post game is laughable in everyway...See you sissy's don't realize this because you've never played "organized ball" at any level. As a 7ft'er Dirk's got ass didn't want the low post contact so he started shooting to develop an outside game. This mere FACT alone is why I'd never want a 7 ft sissy on my team who's afraid of contact.

pretty much agree with the OP. they do play very similar styles. Kobe is a little smaller and quicker so he can make different moves more quickly to get to the basket, while Dirk has size that allows him to take and make some shots that Kobe could never do. then you got Carmello who is similar as well, has a little of both worlds, but is not quite as good of a shooter as either (although still deadly)
Dirk, Kobe, and Melo are probably the three best high-post scorers in the league, and three of the best high-post scorers the game has ever seen, period.

Sorry but that's not true. It's not even close.
A huge fundamental difference is strength. Kobe has it, Dirk does not. When Kobe goes down to the block he uses lower body strength to move his defender and maintain the space he wants. This is a key attribute of every great post player. Dirk cannot do this. He flops if his defender does not move hoping to draw a foul instead of playing the game like a man. This is because Dirk Nowitzki literally has a vagina between his legs.
Second, once post position is established both players attack the basket differently; Kobe will follow through moving towards the basket more often than not while Dirk opts to fade away. I have no problem with Dirk utilizing that move because he is really good at it. But it's not the sign of a strong post player. Kobe can fade away to is even better at doing that as well.
Foot work wise, it's not even close. One goes left, right, up and under, fading back, into the defender, around the defender and on and on. The other will rise up or fade away in slingshot-mode only. Sling-shot mode is the state that Dirk and Manu attack the basket, which is to exaggerate the slightest contact like a finger tap with a knee jerk reaction as if you just got punched full speed. This creates the illusion that they were seriously hacked and almost forces referees to blow a whistle. Another example of why Dirk is a bonafide pussy.
He may be "a 7 ft sissy", but that 7 ft sissy is averaging 25 points on 56% shooting. I'd take that 7 ft sissy on the Spurs any day of the week..

Dirk does tend to fade away a fair amount, but he still hits it at a high clip. As far as Kobe > Dirk at high post off balance fade-aways = wrong.
