Both great games.
You need to get MAME and a USB controller tbh.
Out today on PS3, tomorrow for 360. Can be bought & downloaded from the PS Store and XBLA respectively. I got it earlier today and it's been a total nostalgia trip. I used to feed quarters to this machine at bowling alley and mall arcades back in the 90s. For $10 it's definitely worth it just based on how much goddamn money I spent on it back in the day.
The online co-op is the way to go. 6 players and you blow through the game real quick. Kinda boring playing single player by yourself. Game only lasts about 30 minutes from beginning to end but it's worth it just for the memories.
They need to port the Simpsons arcade game next, that one was the . I'd pay $20 for that one.
Both great games.
You need to get MAME and a USB controller tbh.
10$ is too much for me for a game you can beat in 20 mins
I'll wait for 400 points
Valid point and I don't hold it against anyone putting off getting this game until it's discounted. I'll enjoy playing it now for $10 because I have the cash to spare and the only other DLC I'm looking forward to is a Black Ops map pack that's still 2-3 months out anyway. I just got this game for the memories, I remember playing this until I ran out of quarters at the bowling alley arcade while my parents had their league games every week as a kid.
It definitely has little replay value after you unlock all the trophies/achievements. I got all of them within two hours on the first day, none were really challenging. Online co-op with voice chat is pretty legit as well, had some fun talking with other people with similar memories of playing this game in smokey bowling alleys or mall arcades. If you're into old school beat 'em ups like this, I also recommend the Scott Pilgrim vs the World game. The movie was awesome and the game is too. It's the same price and has loads more replay value. Plus it's not something I've already played before so the experience was all new, and some of the trophies were actually a challenge to unlock.
the only good multiplayer arcade game is
tnmt
simpson
both 4players....
did you guys use to remember the clicker or that ppl take out from there hot water gas systems and shock the arcade machines to get free credit games, sometimes it will shutdown the machien lmao
how about drilling a hole into those coins and attaching a string...lmao
good times
I did the quarter on a string thing all the time! Sometimes it would get stuck in the coin slot and you'd either break the string trying to get it out or just casually walk away like you weren't the one that did it. Dental floss actually worked like a charm on that lol.
You're talking about the Turtles game that had the one level at the beginning where you had to rescue April from the burning building right? That one was great. There was also that Turtles in Time arcade game that was pretty good too but they ported it for SNES and added a level, plus changed some of the bosses to legit TMNT characters instead of random arcade bosses, it was more enjoyable on console. I remember me and my dad going to get a SNES from a pawn shop in like 1993 and then going to Target to buy Turtles in Time. I played that game for hours at a time...that and Super Mario World.
In the mid to late 90s the biggest mall in my hometown had a nickel arcade that was pretty legit. Some of the games were rigged for free play but they were all old ass games like Donkey Kong and from the 80s. Still was pretty fun to be able to go to the arcade with only $10 and play for like five hours though.
For $10 for a game that's what, 15-20 years old, I really wish they would have cleaned up some of the graphical eyesores like the blinking of special powers when the screen gets overloaded. If they would have given the game a bit of a facelift, it might be worth it to me. As it is, I'll pass.
And the Simpsons game was awesome.
Find me someone who thinks it wasn't and I'll punch them in the face. I'm hoping this X-Men game is at least profitable for Konami & Backbone for them to go to the well and port over some of their other classics. I would have preferred this game to get a makeover of sorts but not to the point where it wasn't still sprites and cheesy 16bit graphics. I don't know if you checked out the "Turtles in Time: Re-S ed" game that was released last year but I bought it at full price and really want my money back on that one. It was billed as being HD, but they changed the look of the characters to the more modern 2003 TMNT cartoon and not the old school one that the original game was based on. When your market for a game like that is adult gamers who played that game as a child, that's a real ed up thing to do in my opinion.
On top of that they completely screwed with the gameplay so that you could attack in diagonal directions as well as your standard top, bottom, left and right. It was well within their ability to put an option for classic gameplay in the settings menu, and even an option to switch back to sprites and 16bit. That would have added what another 20MB to the download size?
There used to be a place in San Antonio (same time frame) called Larzland, similar concept. It was like 4 bucks to get in, but they had a room full of free-play arcade games (with some pretty good classics), and all the other games were 1-3 nickels. You could cash in 5 bucks and feel like a king at that place.
Our place was called Nickelmania. The game I played the most was probably this Top Gun game (at least I think it was Top Gun) that you sat in the pit and when you moved the stick the whole game moved around. It was pretty cool back then.
Welcome to Die!!!!
Funspot. Largest arcade in the world. About 20 min drive from my home... still has that Simpsons game.
And yeah, the Xmen game kicked ass too. I might pick it up. I miss the days of arcades.
I'd rate them:
Simpsons
TMNT
X-Men
And those are probably the only three arcade games I ever plugged enough quarters into to see all the way through to the end. X-Men, in particular, was much easier because we had a full group of players. They had Simpsons at the theater (I think Embassy) so it brings me back to those days.
The Dungeons and Dragons game was fun too, but the last boss was a quarter-sink. I hate when games do that. The fighting games were notorious for that trick.
That whole game was a quarter sink, but it did tickle my nerd bone.
That D&D game ate up many of my allowances.
If this game takes 10 minutes to beat now, it sure took longer at the arcade.
Which one? Only one I ever played was Shadows Over Mystara, but I thought there were at least two, maybe three.
simpsons game. i loved that one. stole my quarters most of the time. i sucked. i think i remember a aliens vs predator game. that was fun. similar style.
this is something that the current generation is missing out on.
arcades are not the hot spots like they used to be since everyone has amazing PC's and gaming consoles now..
but back then... going to the arcade was awesome since it had the best games ;/
props for mentioning the simpsons, that one was fun. same as TMNT and xmen.
you guys remember the Afterburner arcade? i remember how awesome it was, the whole chair moving :P
they should make those for home consoles. an "all around" experience... you could use it for pilot games, racing games, any vehicle levels in a game....it could come equipped with a gun (customizable) for FPS games....
