Sorry, but DEN and PHX @SA are not tough matchups, both of them have losing road records, and Spurs beat them both at their gyms.
It's agreed that while Denver (15-10, 4-8 road) and Phoenix (12-12, 5-7 road) don't have great road records I still think they'll both play us tough. The Phoenix match was very difficult early in the year resulting in a tight win (112-110 Spurs) while the Denver matchup was even closer. Winning both of those games by a combined 3 points doesn't leave me oozing with confidence that we can just coast through either game (even if it was on their court both times we won before). Phoenix is always going to play us tough because they just hate us, and now Denver will probably want retribution from last night.

Maybe, but in the course of the season, there will be off games, bad-shooting games, bad luck, and just surprising losses in general to teams you wouldn't expect to lose to.
True. But they also somehow transform into this 3 point machine when the spurs play them.

I think the odds are we will go 5-2 in this next stretch; probably losing to Dallas, and one of the other good teams at home.
As to going 41-9, I doubt we stay as hot as we have been, but we probably win 70% of our games from here on out. For instance, at that point, with 32 games left; if we averaged 60% the rest of the way, we would win 58 games; 60 wins would be basically guaranteed.
You can never tell with injuries during a season, but I would consider the season a huge success if we get 60 wins, and a good indicator that the team would probably make the WCF at least.
It would be nice to stretch the streak to 14. But not likely.

I can't wait to see what happens if a couple of these close games don't go in our favor. There are going to be some epic Chicken Little meltdowns.
Right now we're on a pace to win 72 games. Just guessing - but I'm pretty sure you can expect that to slow down some. Also, don't forget that the Lakers have played the most road games of any team in the league. The Mavs and Spurs are 1-2 for having played the fewest road games. We're going to be playing some tough teams on the road, and we'll lose our share of those games. Try really, really hard not to panic.
I would like to see the Spurs go .667 for the rest of the season. (Win 2/3 of the remaining games.) That would be a 60 win season, which should be good enough to send anyone a message throughout the playoffs. Anything beyond that is gravy. Much better that they be healthy and playing their best ball when the regular season ends.
The way they started the season, they only need to beat bad teams to get >50W and HCA.
The most important thing is to incorporate Splitter in the rotation.
Come PO time, Bonner will evaporate, as usual, Blair will be a little short,
and the Spurs will need another big besides TD to go against Gasol and/or the Mavs.
I don't see that happening anytime soon.
To me, the key to reach the finals is having 2 bigs upfront.
Evethyng else is already in place.

The next game will a tough one. They are bound for an emotional letdown.
The 08-09 Celtics started 27-2. Then went 35-18 (.660) for the rest of the season, for a 62 win season. Then lost in the EC semis to Orlando.
Hopefully the spurs don't mirror this. I think all the key celtics were playing huge minutes due to nagging injuries and in overdrive trying to fulfill Rasheed Wallace's bold 73+ win prediction.
I don't think the big 3 are playing nearly as many minutes. Still got me a touch worried though.
I don't care how many games we win in the regular season, just as long as we get one of the Top 4 seeds in the playoffs.
They lost Garnett that season. I think that explains the record.
I don't care about wins for glory, but I do as a measure of their actual firepower and defense.
At this point, this Spurs team looks good enough to go all the way. From here on out, it is a matter of keeping sharp offensively and improving the defense.
The key toward the end of the season will be health; sacrifice wins to that end at that time, as long as we have home court until the WCF/Finals.
That is why building up wins now is so important. If we can cruise the last week or so, it will really help.
The fact that we have built up this record playing Manu, Tony, RJ and TD all around 30 mpg is AMAZING and speaks well to the health issues.
The Lakers have also played the easiest schedule in the league, having played only 5 teams with winning records (and going 1-4 in those games). Don't even try to compare the Lakers' record or schedule to ours.
