I'd rather have Childress for 7M a year than RJ
I'd rather have Childress for 7M a year than RJ
not me. and definitely not for 5 years.
Full trade details (not sure if they were in the original link when I posted it earlier)
The Suns, according to the Republic, have agreed to send guard Leandro Barbosa and forward Dwayne Jones to the Raptors for Turkoglu, who badly wants a move after a rough first season with Atlanta. The Raptors then plan to use the trade exception it created in their Chris Bosh sign-and-trade deal with Miami to acquire Boris Diaw from Charlotte, with Jones heading to the Bobcats.
Barbosa and Diaw are players who were brought to Phoenix by current Raptors president of basketball operatons Bryan Colangelo.
In the second deal, Phoenix will acquire Childress in a sign-and-trade with the Hawks, who still hold Childress' rights after the restricted free agent spent the last two seasons in Greece. The Republic reported that Childress has agreed to a five-year, $34 million contract with the Suns, who will use a portion of the trade exception created in Friday's Stoudemire sign-and-trade with New York to absorb Childress' contract.

The Hawks, who had no financial flexibility to even consider matching offers to Childress after signing Joe Johnson to a six-year deal worth nearly $120 million
one of the reasons I wanted the Spurs to go after him, because I knew it would be tough for the Hawks to match any offer
all we could offer is 1.9 mil/year. they would surely match that and childress probably just hung up the phone if we even called.
I like Childress but you guys are right. He will demand a lot more money now.
Doing nothing after Stoudemire left would have been better. That became clear when the Suns were forced to part with Richardson to help persuade the Magic to take back Turkoglu. And it's doubly clear given what we're seeing with (and hearing about) Childress, who can't get off Alvin Gentry's bench and, according to NBA front-office sources, is already being shopped by the Suns. Shopped without success.

Childress has not played very well at all this season and getting paid 6 mil this season with 20 mil over the next 3 seasons, it is no wonder the suns are axing players these days. Who the wants to take over that contract for an at best "average" NBA player who cannot shoot the ball.
Wow, just saw this....::This is a matter of talking about players in which you know nothing about.![]()

at the time of that comment, I didn't know what type of production we were going to get from RJ in 2010, and I still consider Childress the better defensive SF
Agreed, at the time NO one really expected RJ to transform so drastically over the course of an offseason. I'm not sure I would have taken Childress.. but I can't blame you for saying that you would.
And you knew what kind of production you were going to get from childress? A guy who has played over seas the last couple of seasons. lol, at still trying to save your post by saying he is a better defensive SF...At 7 mil. per year that better be one of a defensive SF...Did not agree with your post then and can only laugh about now.
Suns have 11 "quality' players (Nash, Dragic, Carter, Pietrus, Childress, Hill, Dudley, Warrick, Frye, Lopez and Gortat). That's too much and at least one of these players won't play (likely Pietrus and/or Childress).
Would love to have Pietrus. Bruno, do you know what Petru's contract is moneywise?
5.3M this year with a player option for the same amount next season.

Thanks. Pretty reasonable contract. I always have liked Pietru's game. Good 3-point shooter, and good defender.
Pietrus is probably available, but the Spurs don't really have the pieces to go for him unless a 3rd team is involved. Bonner + Anderson or Splitter + Anderson and Pho say no, Dyess, then the Spurs say no.
Yea we don't have the pieces to go after Pietrus. The salaries just won't work in our favor. 5.3M is a lot of dinero to dish out with the parts we have to do it with. And Bonner isn't a viable option to be honest.
not big news, so I'll post in old thread:
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo Nets have requested waivers on forward Josh Childress.
is he even any good? all he does is just dunk make sportscenter.....dude is overrated as when he got a payday in europe...
