This seasons seems to be a pretty interesting one for power forwards. Seems like there's been a shift in dominance in the position. The old standards like Duncan and KG have shown signs of slowing down even though they're still very good and helping their respective teams to a lot of wins. And there are some very dynamic young power forwards making names for themselves like Griffin and Love. While Amare and Bosh may have started to show their true value on their respective new teams.

Obviously we've discussed this topic before, but I just wanted to gauge what people thought on of the position now after about a third of the season has passed. Not a troll thread, although obviously responses could make it one lol. Based on this season and this season only (no consideration for career resumes or stats), how would you rank the following power forwards:

    Tim Duncan
    Kevin Garnett
    Dirk Nowitzki
    Pau Gasol
    Chris Bosh
    Amare Stoudemire
    Luis Scola
    LaMarcus Aldridge
    Kevin Love
    Blake Griffin

I didn't include Boozer because he hasn't played nearly as many games this season as the rest. Also left out guys like Josh Smith and David West. Just my opinion. Just rank the PFs listed even if you think other guys should have been listed in this 10.

True. For purposes of this thread, consider him a PF.

I too consider Duncan a center, but for the sake of this list...

    Dirk
    Duncan
    Gasol
    Amare
    Griffin
    Garnett
    Bosh
    Scola
    Alridge
    Love

I rank Duncan so highly because I still think he is somewhat playing possum, but if he has really declined as much as his stats show (which I find hard to believe), then I'd put him behind Garnett but ahead of Bosh.

I find it really interesting how the perception of Amare has changed from the last few years. I think many of us felt he was an overrated, no-defense-playing, weak-rebounding big whose success relied way too much on Steve Nash. I certainly didn't think he could be this good on his own. The guy deserves a lot of credit for the way he's played so far with New York.

you asked for the regular season ranking so far.

when playoffs come around this will be the ranking:
    Gasol
    Dirk
    Garnett/Duncan
    Amare
    the rest...

The doubts were even getting bigger when New York started 3-8. But this time Amare wouldn't have any of it.

Duncan is still a better rebounder and defender than Dirk, Amare and Gasol. That's the main reason you keep him in the top 3-4. He can also still go fo 20-25 points at 55% shooting when left 1 on 1 in the post.

That's exactly what the Lakers did in the 2008 WCF and he shot like 43%. Imagine if Duncan had to face Bynum that series

So he didn't shoot 53% in '09 and 52% this past postseason? Yes or no?

i think the knee injury was actually the best thing to ever happen to him. he realized that he cant rely on athletic ability for the rest of his career, and developed a jumper, ball handles, footwork, and other skills that dont rely on athletic ability. if he hadnt gone through that experience, I strongly doubt he becomes the player he is today.

getting pathetically whipped all over the defensive end by anyone he guards.
Funny cause the same can be said about Dirk's D throughout his entire career.

How anyone can consider ing Duncan over Amare THIS YEAR is a perfect reflection of the collective IQ of the NBA forum..
My high ranking of Timmy is because I feel he is playing possum again. If he is not, then he most definitely doesnt belong in the top 5 even. But he was clearly top 3 last year, and I find it hard to believe he would fall off that much, unless he suffered a major injury or was playing possum.

    Right now:

    Dirk Nowitzki
    Amare Stoudemire
    Kevin Love
    Blake Griffin
    Tim Duncan
    Kevin Garnett
    Pau Gasol
    LaMarcus Aldridge
    Luis Scola
    Chris Bosh

The playoffs will be a different story as Duncan gets 35 mpg+. Gasol should also be back on from at that point, and KG will step up his game as well.

Dirk is #1 right now though. He is simply unstoppable.
