Considering how stacked we are at Shooting guard:

    Manu, Hill, Neal, and Anderson

and how stacked Phoenix is at Small Forward:

Grant Hill, Dudley, Childress, Pietrus ( you can even make a case carter is plays best as a SF)

donsen't it make sense to make a trade, if not with Phoenix someone else who can give us a legitimate , decent SF back-up ? Let's face it our 4th string SG , either Neal or Anderson won't be getting minutes. In fact at the moment we are forced to use 6'2" Neal at Smaill forward at times. Lucky for Neal , Hill was injured which allowed him to breakout. But with Hill's eventual return then add Anderson a natural SG, something really has to give. ( a huge talent is going to get wasted riding the bench). Dosen't it also make sense to get a Lebron or Kobe stopper with legitimate size ( Bowen type). Yeah I know we're never going to get another Bowen , but getting a defensive player with legitimate length and athleticim ( Childress , Pietrus) makes a whole lot of sense. Am I the only one thinks this way ?

Hill, Neal and Anderson all make peanuts. You'd probably have to trade all three just to get Pietrus.

Without even checking the cap won't work out on any of these trades.

You can call Pietrus and Vince a small forward but they can do anything that Anderson can do as a sg. No need for phoenix to make this trade.

As far as I could tell the only trades that work from a salary standpoint involve Bonner. So lets forget the fact that Pop's mancrush on Bonner knows no bounds and look at the trades anyway: Dudley and Garret Siler/Gani Lawal (two minimum guys) for Bonner and Pick(s) or Hill for Bonner and Pick(s.) But there is no reason for PHX to do either of those.

I do know we have two TE's which could come into play, but I'm not entirely sure how the rules work when you include them. I do know we cant use both TE's for the same trade. If it works just like with player salaries I believe Anderson + Ratliff TE for Dudley works, but I could be wrong.

Both Pietrus and Childress make over 5 million this year, so going after either of them is out of the question.

I would love to have Dudley on the Spurs, he is a decent defender and more importantly seems willing to put in the energy on the defensive end. He is also a good shooter and seems like a stand up guy. From what I have seen so far though I believe Anderson has more potential and Anderson is obviously just starting out. Given the choice right now I would rather have Dudley... but I really can't see why either the Spurs or PHX would do this trade.

Anderson isn't a SG anymore he's a SF, Pop had him playing SG sometimes though but mostly SF. He guarded Lebron, Granger, Gordon, W. Johnson, Butler etc. whenever he got playing time.

So yah, no need for a trade.

Can't use a TE with a player to complete a trade.

    Spurs would not touch dudley...he just signed a 4 or 5 year $22 mil deal...not gonna happen...thankfully!

How about Dice and a 1st pick for Grant Hill and a couple 400K slugs from the Suns. After the trade we cut the slugs. The Suns cut Dice and we resign him in 30 days and the Suns could have their slugs back in 30 if they want them. The final result is a 1st round pick for Grant Hill. Good deal all the way around.

i can almost guarantee anderson will get less than 7 minutes of average playing time in the playoffs. spurs need a true backup SF, probably more than they need another big. the pace during the playoffs will slow down, especially against the mavs and the lakers. if the spurs keep going with their smaller lineups, that strategy will fail very quickly. playing udoka will also be suicide.

as for who to trade, the more i see neal play, the more he looks like george hill. if the spurs can get someone like pietrus or childress back in return, who are good athletic defenders, then the spurs need to find a way to package neal in a trade. if teams want anderson instead, i say take the risk also.

I think for a player to come in with only 1/2 of a season left and be able to contribute to the Spurs at SF, it will have to be a vet who is very savvy and someone who Pop will trust. I do not think Childress or Peitrus can develop that trust in time with Pop. On the other hand Grant Hill is Pop's kind of player and is playing some of his best basketball in years.

Forget the role players on other teams. We are in need of a blockbuster deal in the next few years if we want to remain a force in the West. When Tim retires, the Spurs will have cap space, and I wonder what big out there would like to be the go to on one of the best teams in the league instead of being stuck in nowhere land.

In case you haven't noticed we are 26-4. The time is now to find that one player who can compliment the team and finish out the roster. There will be plenty of time to worry about the future when the big three are gone. In my view that one player who can make a difference and fit in right away is Grant Hill.

The point is a trade can be made using Dice's contract and he can come back in 30 days after getting cut just like we did with Barry's contract. A deal for Grant Hill is doable.

The point is, the Spurs are so salary averse this year, they're "floating" the 13th spot when healthy, taking the maximum time allotted (2 weeks) in between signings in order to save salary. If they could, they'd carry only 12.

They're not trading for Hill and then slapping even a vet minimum McDyess re-sign deal on top of that. I'm not even sure Hill would be happy here. He's had two chances to sign here, post Orlando, and has declined both times.

Hill would replace Udoka so the roster size is not an issue. Hill is 38 and is nearing the end. It might be his last shot at a ring and he would get to stay in warm weather. if not the Spurs i expect he will be moved somewhere at the trade deadline and for sure if someone will offer a 1st round pick.

He had a better chance at "ringing" with us both of his last two FA periods, and signed with Phoenix both times. The way the Spurs have been pulling diamonds late in the first round, I'm not sure I give up that pick for a 38 YO who probably wouldn't be happy off the bench.

We are lacking in bigs, not in perimeter shooters.

Those guys mentioned in this thread aren't going to improve our defense. We need some good defenders who can spot up and shoot the three, but I would prefer a good big to share the floor with Tim against bigger teams.

That hasn't happened. The Spurs roster has been down to 12 players twice and the 13th player was signed the next day both times. (Gee waived, Green signed and Green waived, Udoka signed)

For the rest, I agree. Hill actually has decided on Phoenix for four straight summers as he has signed two contracts and exercised two player options. He has no interest in leaving Phoenix, especially to be a backup to RJ. Anderson will be the backup SF.

    The salary cap.
pack splitter and the salary matches. pietrus would be a nice guy to have imo, playing good D and shooting 3-pt pretty well. childress is also a fine player but often acts too inconsistent and callow which definitely counts against him.

I doubt it, Pop did say he made a mistake with not playing Hill and Blair in the playoffs when they were rookies, I'm pretty sure he's learned his lesson. Plus Anderson is pretty experienced, he did stay 3 years in college and is already NBA ready...
