in any pro sport? football, baseball, boxing, cricket, women basketball...the 10/11 lakers might be the worst defending champion the world has ever seen.

Only once as I can recall...... when the 07 Mavs lost to the Warriors in the first round. I didn't expect that from a team that dominated the playoffs in every phase the prior year then went 67-15 for the #1 seed the following season.
This years Lakers are giving them a run for their money.
So we won an Championship and lost 10 games after that all in the same year. I see that as no big deal.

It's not that bad for the Lakers, I'm sure they'll be fine. After all, Bynum is healthy at the moment, right? Isn't that the guy the Lakers have been just drooling over?
It's still too early to worry about this . They'll be there come playoff time.
The 2007 Heat were a complete embarrassment.
Started off the year with a 42-point loss to the Bulls.
Ended the year losing their last six, including a first-round sweep to the Bulls.
So were the 2006 Heat, for different reasons...
The 1998-99 Bulls were defending champions -- at least in name -- and finished 13-37.
Yeah, but in that case it was the front office that was the embarrassment.
For the record, the 198-99 Bulls shouldn't even count in this discussion since the whole Jordan-era core left town. It's kinda like if the Bulls went on probation from the NCAA for recruiting violations.
I guess the more appropriate question should be has a 2 time back 2 back defending champ ever looked this bad...now if your team isn't in that category then the whole question should be invalid....the last back to back team in recent memory ohhh that's right...It's the Lakers again...
Of a non-disbanded team, I would say the Miami Heat looked HORRIBLE the year after they won.
Of disbanded teams, the Chicago Bulls were a mess in 98-99...
