Was really looking forward to Cain/JDS..
UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez will be out six to eight months nursing an injured shoulder.
Sherdog.com learned of Velasquez's injury last week from sources close to the fighter, and the information was verified today by UFC president Dana White in an interview with MMA Fighting following the UFC 125 pre-fight news conference.
Velasquez was expected to defend his le in early 2011 against top contender Junior dos Santos, but that idea has been scrapped. According to White, the hopeful return date for the champ is sometime this summer.
In dos Santos, Velasquez faces a massive Brazilian with knockout power in both hands. “Cigano” is undefeated since joining the UFC in 2008 and earned the top contender spot by besting “Ultimate Fighter 10” winner Roy Nelson at UFC 117 in August. With the exception of Nelson, the Black House product has finished all of his opponents inside the Octagon, including Fabricio Werdum, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Stefan Struve.
Velasquez snatched the heavyweight belt away from the monstrous Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 in October, blasting the 280-pound leholder with crisp punches and bloodying his face. Within minutes, a wobbly Lesnar was in full retreat, and Velasquez sealed the deal with devastating ground-and-pound at 4:12 of the first frame.
Undefeated in nine professional outings, the American Kickboxing Academy standout holds notable victories over former International Fight League leholder Ben Rothwell and french kickboxer Cheick Kongo. Velasquez also holds the distinction of being only the second man to ever finish former Pride Fighting Championships champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Junior dos Santos 'outraged' and confused about Velasquez's injury
"I'm really outraged. How does a person leaves a fight versus Brock Lesnar in perfect physical condition and then get hurt without being in training? The last news I heard about Velasquez, he was riding in Mexico. How did he get injured? I'm in the best moment of my career, training heavily and working hard to put on the fight of my life, and all of a sudden, this is postponed for eight months. That's unfair. I'm five months without fighting, fighting is my life, not just because I love doing it, but also because I need to fight for a living. I don't make as much money as the top fighters, so I really need to work. Of course it would be fantastic to face Velasquez at 'UFC Rio' in August, but I can't keep myself one year away from the Octagon only waiting for his recovering... so I do think what would be most fair, would be Dana gives me the opportunity to fight for an interim belt."

No more interim belts.. Cain is champ he fights when he gets healthy..
Yea, I totally understand Dos Santos being upset that he's losing money and the time out of the ring...but he didn't exactly look great in his last fight, nor is there anyone else that looks game enough to fight for an interim belt. Cain was "riding" in Mexico? Like horses? :p
Sounds like JDS anger is mostly financial. So give him a fight in between but no in interim belt match. Give him a mid-carder on a nice card, to stay sharp and get paid. He stays 1 contender and no interim ..
Yeah the interim belt is so weak. If he wants to fight then fight someone but there doesn't need to be a damn belt associated with it.
I totally agree, if he wants/needs money get him another fight before he faces Velasquez. Make it another contender, someone he will have to work on, I don't know who though.
Problem is UFC cuts too many people too fast these days. Like Gonzaga did not need to be cut. Not everyone is gonna be champ but that doesn't mean you should get rid of them.. Tod Dufee getting cut was beyond stupid, that'd be a good fight for JDS. Ben Rothwell would be a nice fight for JDS to stay sharp and get a payday.. Or how about winner of Schaub and Cro-Cop, preferably Schaub since JDS already beat CC. That one is in March. JDS could fight in the spring since Cain may be out until late summer..
Should anyone be shocked by that? Duffee can only strike and Overeem is the best striking HW in the world..
With Randy out. Nog done, Cro-Cop done, Gonzaga cut etc..
The division has suddenly gotten weak again..
Time for Mir to step up and take what's rightfully his...
