It’s safe to say Gregg Popovich is pleased with hiring Jacque Vaughn
    by Andrew A. McNeill
    48 Minutes of

Amidst the fun and joking of Spurs Media Day, the unofficial kick-off to the season, was the suggestion by Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich that the addition of Jacque Vaughn to the coaching staff was the biggest offseason move for San Antonio.

This season, the Spurs are off to a franchise-best start at 29-4 and look to have as much influence on the le chase as anyone. So before the Spurs took on the Denver Nuggets a few weeks ago, I asked Coach Pop for an update on Jacque Vaughn, the coach, and how he has helped this year’s team.

Great read. Jacque is a class act and deserving of his position with the Spurs. And like the article suggests, he may already be ready for a full time coach somewhere in this league.

How many times have we seen Tony Parker jump the route on passes to the wing this season? It's a new wrinkle, to be sure. I wonder how much influence Jacque has had on that(?). I certainly want to credit TP for savvy and quickness, but Parker has taken it to a level yet seen here. Not only is Tony getting an extra steal/game, his assist/to ratio has improved from 2.14 to almost 3. Is this all TP or is this something new Jacque has done to help Parker enhance his game?

Somethings in the video room and in practice that Jacque points out to him and he's taken advantage of?

Pop is always one to help the careers of those under his tutelage in the media and otherwise -- and that's commendable -- but if Jacques is more than simply a good tutor for guards at this point, why is he never in the huddle come game time? Every time I catch him, he's in the second row with the DNP players, not discussing anything with Bud, Engellund, Pop, etc.

Not hating, just trying to temper conjecture based on quotes with observable reality.

He goes into the huddle once in a while.

I know I saw him in the huddle during the OKC game.

Yup, I've noticed this as well. I don't know how much say JV has in the defensive schemes but this is the best defense I've seen Tony play so far.

Jacque played good defense, which for a 5'10" guy is pretty incredible.

He didn't have an offensive game though.
He didn't have a jump shot, but he handled and distributed just fine, which is a good trick when everyone knows you can't shoot and want to pass.
