LOL @ it's Jefferson's fault cause they all sucked.
Rj's defense was HORRID. That's about all I can say about his game.

Anyone still think a first round pick is too much for Wilson Chandler? That guy KILLED US.

I agree with RJ. Spurs have more championships than the Knocks. I mean what are they gonna do - show another Willis Reed clip if they make the playoffs. What a snore.

I guarantee the Knicks won't win like that again when they're in SA.

If what he said was perfectly fine then Popovich wouldnt have come out and corrected him. The FO obviously wasn't ok with it.

When did they correct him? I saw the video of the initial comments from RJ, but wasn't aware they corrected him or said something about it.

You can't just say like that without a link or a quote. I'll believe it when I see it.

Saying the Knicks haven't won anything since 1973 is talking trash?

    Alrighty...
It's not like if Kobe said "the Spurs haven't won since '07" you wouldn't be all over it.

I even saw a Spurs fan in this forum write that the Knicks haven't been to the finals in over 15 years.

LOL how the do you forget the Spurs played the Knicks in the 1999 finals?

The fact this this was an up and coming team with a point to prove and they hosted the NBA's best team is pretty much why the knicks won. They didn't play intimidated and have been playing good ball all season. A loss to them this early in the season isn't really a big deal.

I don't think the loss itself is a big deal either. We only play them twice a season and they're unlikely to come out of the East anyways.

I have no idea about that, that is why I replied to JAG and asked him since he is the one saying it.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said that having the Knicks thriving is important to the health of the NBA.

“You have to be realistic,” Popovich said. “It’s a huge market. Having good basketball teams in huge markets like New York would be a no-brainder. It’s good for the sport. It’s good for everybody.”
I initially assumes Pop's comments were made after Jefferson's. I guess it doesn't say who commented first, but regardless there was still a difference of opinion on the matter. It's probably safe to assume Popovich doesn't want a player publicly sharing his negative opinions about another team's city. Especially when those opinions are contradictory to public statments made by Popovich.

The bolded part of your statement never happened. You are trying to use two separate quotes as one being an answer to another when that is completely false. Both of those quotes came from the same shoot around session on the same day. Pop was not responding to Jefferson, he was answering a question.

There are 3 or 4 threads about this and not one has any quote from Pop, Spurs FO, or Knicks players stating that RJ's comments were out of line or used as a motivating factor in the game.

    Not one.

The counterpoint RJ was trying to make was that good teams in small markets are equally as good for the NBA as good teams in large markets.

As Spurs fans you should all agree

You do realize the point is whether or not RJ should have made those comments, right? It doesn't matter if random Spurs fan agrees with what he said or not.

It's fairly obvious that Pop would rather players not make negative comments publicly about other cities. It doesn't help matters that they were in disagreement.

No, that's not the point as I see it. He was asked a question and gave an honest, intelligent answer. It wasn't "trash talk", he didn't insult anybody and he told the truth. I don't see the problem.

Is it obvious? Are they in disagreement? They gave two different answers to the same question. That is not a disagreement by any standard. Pop gave a diplomatic answer. RJ gave an honest answer. That is all that happened.

who are we to judge that? do you seriously feel empowered enough to be able to judge that??

Possible. But that's Pop's call. Us fans have no position to . The team got asses beat smack or not.

I agree with you. I think he was saying just because they are in New York doesn't make them any more important than the other teams in the NBA. He didn't say it too well though.

    LOL scapegoating RJ ...

i know it's the Spur way to nut ruffle feathers ...but there was nothing wrong with what he said ...compared to what Pierce said RJ's comments were mundane. the problem is Pierce backed his up with an all-star performance ...RJ witha solid rotation player's performance.

Spurs were due for a bad loss ...no need to overreact HCA through the finals is still the spurs to lose

I don't think he should have made comments that could have been taken negatively by a team the Spurs were about to play. It doesn't benefit anyone.

His feelings about NY not winning anything since the 70's shouldn't be a headline the day before a game.

Is it obvious? Are they in disagreement? The gave two different answers to the same question. That is not a disagreement by any standard.
By the definition of "disagreement" their comments were in disagreement.
