Will there ever be another player like Bruce? Another defender like him for the Spurs? George Hill is a good defender mainly b/c of his athleticism. Bowen was a hard nosed defender who probably would've shut down Ray Allen, or at least slowed him down.

Noooooo! Just giving my opinion on the obvious. Spurs still don't have that shut down defender.

great defenders don't grow on trees imo. RDJ is twice the player of Bruce Bowen at the offensive end, half the player in defense.

You wanted him to shut down the entire Celtic starting five? Because it's not like we got blown away by one premier player.

Even in his old age, Bruce can still play better 'D' than anyone presently on the Spurs. Bring him back, wheel chair and all.

the NBA altered the rules of perimeter defense almost exactly when bowen retired, so the answer to your question is no.

Bowen played center? news to me

LOL, where did I indicate that Bowen played center? Why does a shut down defender HAVE to be a center? You do know we're discussing BASKETBALL here......right?

Sigh! What's with everyone today? "We"??

No, the SPURS didn't get blown out, but Ray Allen had his way against Spurs defenders especially George Hill. Hill wasn't in the same zip code most of the night.

I kept thinking all through the game that I'd so much rather see Ray Allen ing and whining, as he used to do when Bruce was guarding him, than sneering like he was last night. He was always Bowen's .

When you have Glen Davis shooting fadeaways over Duncan back to back, and Rondo shooting jumpers back to back. The stars are alined for the night. It's like the night Bonner kept making all those 3s in a row! Sometimes its just your night.

our problem isn't a wing defender, we have no C, that's our issue. so unless Bowen grows 5 inches he's not going to help

So you think the Spurs problem against the Celtics wasn't Ray Allen scoring almost every time he got his hands on the ball, it was the center position? Uh....ooooooookay!!!

We knew Ray was going to score. Davis and Rondo killed us with their unexpected production. They got game too I guess.

George Hill is coming into his own as a perimeter defender.. He has a ways to go yet but in his confrontation with Kobe, he has shown me that he's got the right the determination and competetive spirit and a knack to get under other players skin (which is a tactic many elite defenders have) ..give him some time to grow and he could really become a good one..

I think that the OPs point was if Bruce was on Ray Ray, Spurs win this one.

    Either way, fantasy thread tbh.
