Is there a way we could get Gortat from the Suns for Dice & Splitter and a 2nd rder? Splitter clearly isnt part of our plans this yr but I'd hate to see another Scola thing! The man wasnt MVP of his league for nothing!
honestly, i would do it but take out the first round pick or splitter. spurs need to just go all in. splitter isn't going to meaningfully contribute this year in the playoffs. as the season drags on and splitter continues to remain nailed to the bench, come on, every spurs fan has seen this before. popovich isn't going to change his mind.
this is probably the spurs' last chance to win a le in a while. the stars are aligning for them. no injuries yet, injuries to the celtics and mavs, lakers stumbling, plus the heat are still in their first year and dealing with injuries themselves. this will be an all or nothing ride. spurs can't be satisfied with a 1 seed and a WCF exit. there is no future for this team. plus, it's not like varejao is an aging veteran, he'll still be useful next year if the spurs manage to win a le this year.

The Cavs aren't going to trade him away for a project, the 28-30 pick in the draft, and player they're going to cut...Spurs trade McDyess, Splitter and our 2011 #1 pick
to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao. Cleveland cuts McDyess and we resign him 30 days later.
No, but I would trade George Hill for Omri Casspi.
George has this and next year left on his contract, at which time he is gonna want a hefty raise and starter minutes.
Omri has 3 years left on his contract.
Sacramento wants a PG for Omri.
Hill is 24 yo and shoots 38.6 from three and is 6-2. (11.2ppg)
Omri is 22 yo and shoots 40% from three and is 6-9. (8.9 ppg)
With Anderson coming back I feel we have the depth at guard to make this trade and get a smart, tall and true backup SF.
I'm pretty sure that building a buyout of McDyess into the trade is against the CBA rules. The Spurs and Cavs could discuss it, but the Cavs could choose to turn around and trade McDyess anywhere, or just keep him.
What about McDyess + Splitter, but without the pick? The Spurs have only one starting-quality big man, and Varejao would give them two. Then, even if McDyess doesn't come back, the big rotation of Duncan/Varejao/Blair/Bonner is pretty stout.
no, Splitter's a better player and he has more upside...
no
No but I would make a trade for Bargnani, cause Bargnani can help on both ends. Varejao would help defensively but he wouldnt play for the same reason that Splitter doesnt play. Matt Bonner stretches the floor AND plays passable defense/rebounding( I used the words passable and rebounding LOOSELY).
Check out youtube Andrea Bargnani: 5 years on, I dont know how to paste it, Sorry.

I'd love to have Bargnani, but he's the #1 option in Toronto and he's not up for grabs.
With Varejao and Manu playing on opposite ends the Spurs can flop every team to death and in stereo.![]()
Splitter sucks...trade his ass.....
tbh, if you got Varejao you would never have to worry about Dirk face ing the Spurs ever again.
I've said many times on here that Varejao seems to guard Dirk 1 on 1 better than anybody in the league
Not just "no", but " NO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always advocate Spurs getting a tall SF. And his 3pt shooting looks good. But how good is he on the defensive end? Is he a smart defender?
Still pushing Bargnani....
Let's play along and assume that the Spurs would be interested. Andrea makes 8.5M this year and is the face of the franchise in Toronto. So what do we have that Toronto would accept in exchange for Bargnani?
(Patiently waiting for proposed Parker trade)
Splitter could be a major piece to keeping the Spurs relevant over the next 6 -8 years. Why would you trade him for someone who is at best a role player.
Splitter is the better basketball player. On another team that gives him 25-30 min a game he will produce good numbers. It would be a huge mistake to make this trade. I would not trade Splitter for Varejao. We give up way to much potential for someone who won't make a difference this year.
He plays hard, but it is difficult to assess his defense because he plays for Sacramento. He is also fairly athletic so I think Pop could really do a lot with him on the defensive end.
Watching the SAC vs DEN game right now and I say 'Wow'. I really like his game. Defensively he plays hard and uses his body well. And he knows where his teammates are, which is a plus for team defense. Hope Spurs can get this guy.
Splitter has not reached his peak and he was still better than Varejao on the Brazilian team last summer.
No way. I think Varejao is one of the most overrated players in the league. Great flopper and hustler, and obviously can rebound, but very little skill. Pop seems to like players with basketball skills.
Hill for Casspi is very intriguing. I think he would be much better on the Spurs. But that trade might throw off our momentum and chemistry this year if he has to learn the system and slow down what we already have going on.
blair isn't big by length but im more than satisfied with his performances this season as a starter. trigga rebounds and plays good D especially when playing against soft bigs. Varejao would give us a 3rd quality big and another big chip for a championship bet
spurs picks often turn into good triggas for example blair & hill, despite being ranked 25th - 30th
just get varejao w/o losing the pick, we STACKED![]()
