Jared Lee Loughner, arrested in connection with the shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford and others, posted a YouTube "manifesto" of sorts in December. The video discusses, in a rather incoherent manner, the "new currency." Currency is a staple of Tea Party rhetoric, just as it has been a staple over the history of the Nativist right. The fears of the far right always have been that the Federal Reserve system will sink the country by printing funny money.
During his 2008 campaign for the presidency, and many times since then, libertarian Ron Paul warned against paper money. Various Tea Party groups have joined in raising the alarm against the dangers of printing money, and some have even suggested using an alternative currency of silver and gold.
There is another tangent in the paper money discussion, which holds that Jews are behind the Federal Reserve system, and are working behind the scene to destroy the true American Republic. It is worth noting that Giffords is the first Jewish member of Congress in Arizona's history.
