CHICAGO — Rock legend Chuck Berry is in good health after collapsing on stage during a performance in Chicago due to exhaustion, a spokesman said Monday.
Berry, 84, slumped over an accompanist's keyboard about an hour into the performance Saturday night and was helped off the stage in front of a packed house.
He returned about 15 minutes later and tried to resume the show, but was taken off stage almost immediately to be checked by paramedics.
Berry came back out to thank the fans who'd waited for him and left the stage using a bit of his signature 'duck walk.'
A few minutes later he walked out the stage door on his own into an awaiting limousine. He did not go to the hospital and was home in St. Louis on Sunday.
"I'm sorry to see his health be in that shape," said boogie piano player Vijay Tellis-Nayak, who performed with Berry that night.
"He obviously loves performing. The music is still there. It's hard to see his health deteriorating. He may be working harder than he should."
Berry performed two shows in New York the night before.
With his string of 1950s jukebox gems such as "Johnnie B. Goode," "Sweet Little Sixteen," "Roll Over Beethoven" and "School Days," Berry profoundly influenced some of the biggest pop groups of the 1960s including the Beatles, The Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.

Anyway, Chuch Berry gets a pass as far as I am concerned. I don't really give a what his predilictos are. The dude is the architect of rock n' roll. Show some respect. 84 and still rockin'? That's a bad man right there.

That is unsubstantiated. It's never been confirmed that it is Berry who is actually in the video you are referring to and if it's so gross, why are you watching it? I've never seen anything about eating in said video either.

No, it's substantiated. An Alamo Drafthouse full of people witnessed Mr. Ding a Ling urininate all over a woman and tell her he wouldn't kiss her because she smelled like piss.

But if you really want to know the story, The Show With No Name (cable access show in Austin) was having their Raw, Uncensored and Totally Nude show at the Alamo and my wife got us tickets. We saw a woman queef out a lit candle, America's Funniest Home Videos of kids peeing on their parents, the Rob Lowe sex tape, and other rare ephemera. The Chuck Berry tape was thrown in because of fanboys like you who question it's authenticity. It's very real and very much him.and if it's so gross, why are you watching it? I haven't seen it, but everything I've read about it says it's impossible to tell if it's actually Berry. I guess he has never publicly denied it, but that doesn't really prove anything. Would you kiss her?
You seem pretty reliable . . . don't put words in my mouth. I haven't seen the video, so I obviously do not believe what you are implying. If anything you are assuming to know the person in the video's iden y. You are the one who has seen the video and is making the assumption about the iden y of the person in it.

I already stated that I don't give a what Chuck Berry's "hobbies" are. I am not interested in watching the footage. I have not found one legit news source that confirms that the man in the video is Berry. However, I have found a lot of statements that are inconclusive. In fact, it was removed from Wikipedia (which lets all kinds of bull pass) for being unconfirmed. I know the guys who do The Show With No Name so, I guess I'll ask them next time I see them. Until then I guess, I have to take your word for it. I'm just dealing in FACT as I know it.
Is Chuck Berry a rock n' roll and guitar pioneer? Yes. Is he one of the most influential musicians of the modern era? Absolutely.
I just don't think that an old murky film of somebody pissing on somebody else should be the priority of focus when you are discussing a music legend.

I didn't say he wasn't great. I didn't say that he wasn't influential. It wasn't murky. So when we talk about music legends we shouldn't mention their faults? That's beyond re ed. I never said the guy was a prince or anything. My point, which you continue to miss, was that why should this be the first thing that is mentioned about him. You admit he's "great" and "influential", yet on a thread about a 84 year old guitarist collapsing on stage, the first thing you think to mention is an old film of someone who may or not be Chuck Berry pissing on somebody? And I am beyond re ed? . . . I see.
