    Cowon J3, 32 GB version.

I haven't had a non-tiny mp3 player since my Cowon X5 back in 2005. I in loved that thing. But the battery became mung after a couple years. This thing is supposed to have dominant sound and battery life. I have even thought of following the online-tutorial of replacing the battery myself because it's such an awesome player (My old X5)

I didn't really care about WiFi (I own a cel phone) or apps (I want to listen to music)
Just sound quality, hard space, and battery life. Seemed like the way to go.

    64 hr audio / 11 hr video

    3.3-inch, 16-million color AMOLED display with 480 x 272 pixel resolution

Supports MP3, WMA, OGG, FLAC, WAV and APE audio formats; AVI, WMV, and ASF video formats (DivX/Xvid/WMV codecs); JPEG image format; TXT text files

    Touchscreen

Cowon's badass BBE Jet Effect sound

    Voice/Radio recording

    pre-installed adobe flash player

One of my favorite parts is that it has a microSD card slot, so I can expand the memory.

Anyone here have any opinions, reviews of anything similar? Or is everyone in the Geek Forum an apple acolyte?

How are their touchscreens? Being an iGadget user, I've had problem with other touch screens in the past (though I've never used any of the new Droids). Is it similar to Apple's multi touch?

Let me know what you find the actual battery life to be also. I like to keep a permenent player in my cars at all times, right now only 1 of 2 has one.

I doubt I'll ever upgrade my 120 gig Ipod classic. As of late I've been listening to a lot of pandora on my phone and once phone's get closer to 50gigs in capacity on cards then i'll likely just switch over everything to my phone.

Nice player I just think 32 gigs is too small for me.

Make sure to get some killer headphones to go along with that. Cowon makes some of the best internal audio circuits among all MP3 player manufacturers. Good headphones will sound absolutely awesome with that J3.

Can you suggest any head phones? i currently have some sixty dollar sony headphones. i don't know where to begin to get good ones. Bose?
so far the player is pretty tight. I just can't figure out how to get album cover pictures to show on the icons.

Hmmm, it really depends on what your budget is and what genre of music you listen to most frequently. Bose is really, really overpriced, so I would stay away from them for the most part.

Metal electronic and hip hop mostly. i love bass. Just suggest a few and tell me how much they cost. I can open up the wallet a little bit just nothing like five hundred dollar phones or something lol.

    Hmmmm.

They aren't as well regarded anymore in terms of audiophile level quality, but Ultrasone HFI-780s are just about perfect for what you want. They have a ton of bass (seriously, as in it's almost like you have a sub on your head) and their mids are very forward, which means the guitars are going to sound absolutely perfect. They're also well priced for how good they sound, and I've got a ton of compliments from women in public when I'm wearing them, so they look pretty sweet for full-size cans, I guess.

If you want to spend a little more, maybe invest in some Beyerdynamic 770s.

I feel the same way. 16 gb can hold a lot of the music that I need for work, but in reality, my 80 gig classic is more than enough space, so why upgrade.

If I want anything that's not on my iPod, I can listen to Pandora or find the music on Youtube if I want to hear a particular song. There's so much ways to stream music to get around not having it on the MP3 player.

That's one of the reasons I got my iPhone, to expand on my music without downloading anything.

Damn, 16 GB is more than enough for me, at least at one time. I have about 1500 songs on my iPod and a lot of albums just get swallowed. My former colleague was saying he had a similar problem withing listening on his 80GB iPod.

Same here. Whenever I hear a band that has a few songs I like, I just download the whole album and throw it on my iPod. Half the time I forget what I even have on it.

However, this can be a good thing, because every now and then I have a moment where I find something on my iPod and I'm like, "Wow, I have that? Cool."

The nice thing about flash-based mp3 players is that you can run/workout with them, and the motion won't damage the internal storage.

This thing is so ing bad ass.

I don't know if this is common on mp3 players, but it allows you to slow or speed down any track 60%-150%

So you can make any song sound screwed or like chipmunks.

I been listening to Sneaker Pimp's Becoming X on 70% and Dayton's voice sounds like a crazy drugged out white guy. It's insane. It's like listening to these songs for the first time being covered by some lounge band with a singer whose just shot up heroin.

The equalizer presets are insane. There are like 6 different reverb settings so you can make anything sound like its seriously being played in a ty club and theres lots of feedback and reverb.

It's taken me this long just to transfer old mp3 files from my Cowon X5 to this one, and get the tags and album covers set up. I still got my whole unripped collection to do but it will be worth it.

I highly, highly recommend this player to anyone. It's in sweet.

btw, no problems at all with the touch screen. It's really responsive, you can flick the thing to switch tracks, press the button on the side, or press the button on the screen. You can also just shake the damn thing and it will change tracks for you, but you can turn that function off.

What really stands out about this thing is the screen image quality. Album covers 500x500 look absolutely amazing. The HD video and any other high quality images look so crystal clear from any angle too.

Not yet. I can't decide on a pair. Been listening to it mostly via my home stereo.

Most my time has been reorganizing my mp3's and tagging them properly....takes forever even with mp3 tag. I never had tags on most my so its been quiet tedious. But it's worth it.

Those Beyerdynamic 770s look pretty tight, I might get those. But which OHM version should I get? They all cost the same

Unless you plan to drive them with an amp, as low as possible. Ohm is a measure of resistance, so the more ohms a set of headphones is rated at, the more power you need behind them. A set of big cans is just too much for most portable players to handle at times.
