Does that mean James Anderson is not coming back? Hasn't he been gone WAAAAAY too long for his type of injury?
    No, that's Roddy Beaubois.

WTF, James Anderson's return get pushed back two weeks and you people think he's gone forever Spurs are just filling their roster in the meantime and hope for the off chance Owens might even be servicable as insurance for the rest of the year.

Jesus some of you people need some anxiety medication.

Zabian Dowdell scored the honor of being the first D-League call-up of the season almost a week ago, but Larry Owens may not be far behind. According to Jonathan Givony of Draft Express, Owens could soon be called up by the San Antonio Spurs, making Owens the first call-up following the D-League Showcase.

San Antonio is among the most embedded NBA teams in terms of the D-League relations. They operate their very own D-League affiliate, the Austin Toros, and have been pretty creative in retaining talent in order to use the Toros as a true farm team. Owens himself isn’t a member of the Toros (he plays for the Thunder-affiliated Tulsa 66ers), but the Spurs clearly have an understanding of the value of the D-League as a resource and a player pool, and could be dipping in soon to offer Owens a 10-day contract.

Owens should fit right at home in San Antonio, tucked away in the corner to fire away from three-point range. He’s made 37.7% of his three-point attempts during his two-year D-League career, and an impressive 46.4% mark from long range during last season’s D-League playoffs (during which Owens led the 66ers all the way to the D-League Finals). On top of that, Owens is a solid positional rebounder and a long defender, making him a suitable complement for the Spurs’ array of talented players. Owens won’t play much if at all, but he certainly fits the San Antonio mold of the role-player-in-waiting, ready to step in and contribute at the first sign of injury trouble.

Andersons time table got pushed back 3 more weeks so that's plenty of time to get someone else in and get a shot in practice and garbage time.

That is what I hate about these signings year after year, there are available minutes at the back up SF spot (5-15 minutes); which would equal valuable rest for Manu & RJ.

I don't mind Pop using Hill/Neal/etc at the 3 spot sometimes, but there are times when you need a true SF out there on the court.

You read that article about how good his defense is and how good his offense is and mid range game.

It makes you wonder what keeps him out of the league.

Who knows, but he's already 28, so he's probably running out of chances.

Probably nothing more than not quite being one of the 400-450 best basketball players in the world.

I've been throwing out his name as a potential callup for months, so of course I think it's a good idea to try him out. He's a glue guy with a terrific work ethic and occasionally put his team on his as he did in last year's playoffs. I don't expect him to do much more than chuck threes on offense and give his all on defense, but there's not much more for him to do. For traditional SF types, he's a good choice.
