Since these two seem likely destined for a meeting in the WCF, how do you guys think that San Antonio should attack the Lakers?

Currently, I think LA would win in a 7 game series but SA could win if the following happened (assuming neither team make any trades)....

    1. Tim Duncan channel his younger self
-This is the most important and obvious one, imo. Tim Duncan has to step up and be the #1/defensive anchor in the playoffs. McDyess and Splitter just aren't quality defensive bigs and Blair would get worn down by Gasol over 7 games. That's why I think it's up to Duncan to get the best out of the 1 on 1 matchup vs Gasol.

    2. Hope Bynum turns into a lazy on offense
-This would help the Spurs greatly on defense and is obviously something that's not out of the question. With one 7 footer deciding to take it easy on offense it makes it much easier on the defense.

    3. Hope Odom doesn't go off too much
-IMO, this is the one guy SA won't have any answers for. McDyess is the one guy who I could see slowing him down, but he'll probably get his regardless.

    4. Turn Kobe into a chucker
-Get ahead early and this will always happen. LA plays right into the Spurs hand.

    5. Hope Artest gets the green light on offense

So yeah, that's what it would take for the Spurs to beat LA right now. Certainly things that are doable. Should be a fun series if these two meet up

    1) Defense has to show up. Have to keep a handle on their trio of bigs, run their shooters off the line, and bait Kobe into chucking them out of the game. Containing the Lakers is a very difficult task for a very good reason; they are a well constructed team. But the Spurs are one of the few teams that may have the components to do so.

    2) Shooters have to be ready for shoot. Phil has always shut down Parker by packing the lane, so the drive to the basket won't be as reliable for any of the guards. Still, driving and dishing should find open shooters on the perimeter. The Spurs will need these shots to win. Parker's mid-range game could also help keep the defense honest, and keep him afloat against a team that has caused him fits in the past.

    3) Tim Duncan has to negate Pau Gasol. The Spurs have shown this season that they don't necessarily need Tim Duncan's scoring to be great, but the Lakers need Gasol's. If these two Hall of Fame bigs can play to a draw, I think the remaining talent comes out in the Spurs favor.

This is the big key imho

Outside of LO and Kobe the Lakers have no other guy who can score consistently. The Spurs have a ton of guys that can light it up ala Manu, Parker, Jefferson, Neal, Hill

In 2003, when the Spurs knocked off LA, it started with Duncan owning Shaq 1 on 1 and you could just see the confidence build within the rest of the team. History is gonna have to repeat itself this year.

It is a troll post, and you should own that because the alternative is that you are an idiot.

Three of your options invoke "hope" to get there. How is hoping the same as attacking?

So yeah, you are trolling. It's too cold in these parts for that, you would need to be much deeper than you obviously can go in order to get bit.

On defense, the Spurs bigs must contain/neutralize LAL's bigs. That'll force Kobe into chuck-mode. On offense, the back-court must attack, attack, attack (run them into the ground) and hopefully the 3pt shooters show up.

Pau Gasol isn't a Hall of Fame player.

If he keeps winning championships at the rate he has in Los Angeles, I'd like to see them keep him out.

I know Pau isn't like a top 5 center ever or anything, but he is a very good player. He was just buried in mediocrity in Memphis, and may not necessarily be the best leader.

Still, it is no small coincidence that the Lakers have made three straight Finals appearances since acquiring Gasol, and taken two of them to the bank. I was never a big Gasol fan, but that kind of impact cannot be ignored.

Pau could definetely make the HOF and a lot will depend (as with Bynum) of the Lakers legacy after Bryant really slows down. If those two keep them in the mix for les both will have legit chances down the line. (I realize Pau past 30 but bigs tend to play longer.)

I have to agree with this. Pau Gasol is much more important to LA than people give him credit for. He was one of the biggest "trades" in the last 20 years tbh, especially in terms of effect on the team that acquired him.

You know what, there's a number of insults I can type, all of which have been overused. But I just don't think you're worth it BUMP, because I think you're lonely, you spend so much time on ST, it would be understandable if you came every once and while to poke fun, but no, you dwell on this forum. & what satisfaction does that give you? Is it going to help you find a girlfriend spending all your time here? Come on man, I've told a few other people, and I'll tell you, you need to focus on growing up a little more.

RJ has done an excellent job on Odom in the past
Hill done a nice job on Kobe, but if Kobe finds his range not many can stop him.
Artest will guard RJ, most RJs points come from the 3 ball so Artest and his solid defense will be at the arc where I'm sure RJ will still get enough open looks.

If Parker plays like he is the Fakers have no chance as they can't stop him.
This game will be won or lost at the Point Guard position.

Mercilessly attack the Laker perimeter defenders and get out in transition often. Those are the two biggest weaknesses the Lakers have. Perimeter and transition defense.

Yep, people sometimes forget that LA was first round fodder (or didn't make the playoffs) before Gasol.
