Sorry if this is old.
um, summary?
(looked up on wiki)
oooooh. *That* guy.
Right reasons, wrong method. Poor judgment, IMO.
I can see why he is a posterchild of the " yeah" brigade, but most, if not all, of the people who think he is the best thing since napalm have probably not read the current army counterinsurgency manual. You know, the one written by some Colonel named Patreaus...
Threatening a detainee with imminent death (as the gunshot was obviously meant to do) is forbidden, and it's not even questionable. It's black and white.
Subject line?
Or did you need me to opinionate so you could dissect?
You're right, we should threaten him with time out and embargo's..........
Enough people didn't seem to mind him. That first video shows to me what happens when you have a guy with a get it done at ude in politics.
24 has been canceled.
So has "Life Goes On".
The Germans had a lot of "get it done" politicians int he 1930's and 1940's who decided not to let silly things like laws get in their way. They got a lot of stuff done.
Yeah, I went there.
While I don't mind getting things done, I am not an "ends justify the means" kinda guy.
This guy did what he needed to do to get the race won, but I don't think I would hold him up as an example for my kids to follow.
I generally don't really bother too much with videos, and wanted a simple summary to read. I kinda figured it out anyways.
was season 8 any good? That's the only one I haven't seen.
I don't have a problem with my kids looking up to him, based on what I know of him.
I'm glad you went to the nazi era germany. In fact had America not had more of the "get it done" type of people, we wouldn't have ended up how we did. Greatest generation = get it done.
Just yet ANOTHER example of someone criticizing someone's actions without giving a better example. What would you have done? Maybe things like 9/11 wouldn't have happened with more actions like this. I don't know.
Great, another "all Muslims are evil and want to eat your children" thread.
What would *I* have done?
I would have acted within the confines of the law.
Clearly shooting past someone's head fell outside that.
There are risks/benefits of that, of course.
As for "getting things done", there is a vast gulf between a can-do at ude and setting aside ethical/moral/legal obligations when it is inconvenient.
That is essentially what this guy did in a nuts .
Do you really want your politicians setting aside laws they find inconvenient?
So basically the guy wouldn't have talked? Classic.
You might as well said, I dunno.
One of the primary lessons we learned in Vietnam is that being assholes only makes people pissed off at you. I know this might come as a shock to you, but one of the principles of counterinsurgency is to not do stupid like this.
Sure, you get a short term gain, but you come off looking just like the guy you toppled in the first place.
Cost + Benefit. Small short term benefit. Larger long term cost.
If you want to disagree with me, please tell me why Colonel Patraeus got that wrong when he wrote that princpal lesson into the military's counterinsurgency doctrine. (he was a colonel when he was in charge of distilling the military's in-depth study of Vietnam into that doctrine)
Are you saying Patreaus doesn't know what he is talking about or that you know better than he does?
Ummmm, oooohkaaaaay. Why would you want your kids looking up to Das ly?
We have laws for a reason. Threatening imminent death is probably the most obvious form of torture there is. If the military tribunal/jury wants to nullify the case, they can.
this is the mindset that at udes like Allen West feeds...bas barbarians...

Do you really think that there is not a person more experienced or smarter than you that disagrees with what you say? Are you serious?
Why don't you run for pres. since everyone else is inferior to you?
You didn't answer the question.
Why would I? With an idiotic response like he gave, every statement can be answered with a "Do you think you're smarter than ___________?"
"If you want to disagree with me please respond to someone else's statements which I value more than my own, because its much easier to find someone else who agrees than it is to form and type my own thoughts."
in essence, this is what you are being asked: Do you think the counterinsurgency strategy developed by Petraeus is wrong?
It's a very simple question.
appointed to Sunset Commission:
http://www.texastribune.org/2015/12/...orida-congres/The Sunset Commission, whose members are appointed by the lieutenant governor and speaker of the House, is tasked with periodically reviewing the operation and efficiency of different state agencies. Patrick appointed West as one of the commission's two public members. The other 10 people on the commission are members of the Legislature. West's appointment is likely to put a spotlight on the typically low-profile commission, which is reviewing more than a dozen agencies ahead of the 2017 session, including the Department of Transportation and the Texas Medical Board.
"Lt. Col. West is a dedicated public servant who has served our country in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Congress," Patrick said. "Now the State of Texas will benefit from his conservative leadership."
