I remember the 1 and 1. I hated that.
I'm watching this older game and they shot free throws for every single foul. It's ridiculous. No rhythm or flow to this game,no wonder NBA was on tape delay in beginning. And do any of these guys know how to use their left hand.
I think they should make act of shooting FTs 1 and 1.
You need to make the first one before they give you 1 more shot.
Will force sucky FT shooters to take it more seriously.
If you don't improve your FT shootig, too bad. Lost opportunity for your team.
Quickens the game a bit too.
son about the same time they decided to start rigging and controlling games.
I guess none of you were around when there was a 3 shots to make 2 Free Throws rule..
Or when a backcourt foul got free throws
Hack a Slack would be in full force.
Or when that peach basket was a REAL one.

I think this is the entry you are looking for:
I think it was like this back in the day (been watching since the mid 60s)1972-73
• No foul shots are attempted, other than shooting fouls, until the fifth team foul of any period.
before the foul limit reached: 1-and-1 on common fouls, 2 shots on shooting fouls
after the foul limit reached: 2 shots on common fouls, 3-to-make-2 on shooting fouls
This lead to amusing things like bad-FT-shooting bigs bricking 3 free throws in a row. Yes, they missed thrice!
