Really love that he knows life is more than just Basketball, but when he is coaching he is still more focused on winning and improving the team than most other coaches in the NBA.

Great interview. , any interview that you can get Pop to answer questions without being a smart ass is a good one these days...
Pop remains one of my favorite people in the NBA because he is so "normal". Great guy.

Indeed. I think I never saw Pop being so comfortable with an interviewer and having as much fun as the other guy doing his job .

And it was an interesting bit that - Don Nelson + Chris Webber vs Gregg Popovich + Tim Duncan.. It was almost as if the contrast was between a maverick offensive coach versus a play the right way defensive one and a talented egoist underachiever power forward versus a talented selfless champion.

That subplot made this interview a must see.

Ok...makes sense about the comfort level Pop has with him.
Didn't know the interviewer, Greg Papa, used to be the Spurs lead TV guy from 1997-2000. Yes...he was very good.

    Same here.

I remember him calling the Spurs/Lakers game 2 of the WC Semi-finals in 1999, "Reid is on Duncan... into Duncan, Duncan, Duncan, Duncan, DUUNNNCAAAN!! DUUUNNNCAN! With 8.4 to go!"

That was when Duncan made the game winning shot over J.R. Reid against the Lakers. It always gave me chills for some reason

Yeah I was wondering at first why Pop was being so forthcoming with the guy then realized that was Greg Pappa. For those that don't know, he used to be our TV analyst so he knows Pop and the team well.

Really bringing some goods to the board as of late, Spursfanfromafar.

The Patriots comparison is an easy one to make on some structural and superficial levels but the Spurs and the people they employ are who they are, not people that conduct themselves quietly and within the confines of their team for the sole purposes of some compe ive advantage.

They genuinely "get it." The sport, their role and what it means in the whole grand scheme of things. They're professionals that love and enjoy what they do. Belichick and Co. seem to have more of that lifer "sickness," the game and the end result seemingly being their life -- speaking more to the staff than players.

If you lived in San Antonio, the answer would obvious. I doubt that Pop could sit still for 8 minutes of questions from any member of the local media. He'd start giving them the same answers he gives Craig Sager or Ric Bucher.
