Cousin scores on an alley-oop tip in to give Toros 2 point lead with a little over 1 second left
That was a pretty badass play to take the lead. Alley oop pass to Cousin.
James Anderson's definitely at the NBA level. Putting up 12 in under 12 minutes, damn that's really impressive at any professional level, especially for a guy just coming out of college.
Star player Marcus Cousin with the last second shot for the Toros!
I wonder if he's a future rotational Spur...
Toros win, 97-95. JA plays 11.35, with 12 points on 4/6 shooting, 1/2 3-pointers, and 3/4 FT. No TO.
lance thomas was a stater for duke last year and can't get a sniff in the NBA????
Lance Thomas would have been nice for a long SF but he doesn't have the range to spread the floor right? That kind of sucks.
Very happy with those numbers from Anderson. I think he'll be back wearing a Spurs uniform in no time.
No if we can just get Bonner back from his invisible permanent knee injury or whatever the it is.![]()

Thats a of a PER for sure.
As was mentioned, Anderson was only supposed to play five minutes each half.
Lance Thomas started the season at PF and has moved to SF after some roster shuffling. Needs an outside shot if he wants to play it at a higher level.
Cousin's jumper is money these days and he was playing very good d this game.
The game was early because at least once a year they bus in schoolkids for some kind of field trip. You can watch the archive now or at anytime by clicking the futurecast link on the front page of the d-league site where they list the scores. Make sure you choose the best bitrate for your connection at the lower right of the console screen.
That's cool. Damn spoilt kids these days.My school always just took us to the zoo...or natural bridge caverns.
And yes, we had to walk, uphill both ways, in the snow.
Anderson didn't look especially quick, but smooth enough for me not to worry about anything.
His scoring was never questioned. Everyone knows what kind of offensive player he was/can be coming out of college. He needs to improve defensively if he wants to be a star and get his legs back under him before we throw him out their with the Spurs.
Thanks Chump.
About Cousins, was given the impression a while back by one of his coaches (can't remember who it was in interview) that he was looking like a shooting 4/5 prospect. Legit?
Thanks to everyone in the thread who posted all the updates on James Anderson!![]()
I thought Cousins did a good job. He reminded me of a Kendrick Persons type center when he was here during the pre-season but to say he has developed a nice jumper is great.
Could be. At the start of the season he was getting most of his points off of pick and rolls. Lately he's been getting more from face ups and fadeaways. Still really doesn't have much of a post game to speak of, so he might be more of a traditional PF prospect than center -- at least offensively.
Thanks for the information Chump.
It's good to hear that Cousin's jumper is improved. Now if he ever get consistency on his jumper up to the level of Dice, he'd be deadly. I recall that his post game was at least fair.
Do you think he'd warrant a late-season callup?
Probably as much as any big man left in the D-League. Pickings are a little slim this season.
I haven't seen much other than his time with the Spurs, so I was a little surprised to hear he had been displaying a legit shot. But what I did see was some good size and mobility for a big and someone that looks to be a capable rebounder and defender.
If that happens to be true and he can play the pick-and-pop and face-up game, I'm sure the Spurs will be very interested. The Spurs look to me they're going more and more European offensively, going away from traditional post-up opportunities and to even more drive-and-kick -- making sure they've got the middle of the floor as open and accessible as possible.
Anderson has strong debut with Toros
Spurs No. 1 draft choice James Anderson wasted little time getting back into action, scoring 12 points in 11 minutes in Austin’s 97-95 victory over Reno Wednesday afternoon.
Anderson was sent to Austin earlier in the day with hopes of playing several games to get back into playing shape. After playing in the first six games of the season, Anderson has missed the Spurs’ next 39 games with a stress fracture in his right foot.
Former Spurs guard Danny Green scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Bighorns in his first game with them.
Spurs fans will be able to monitor Anderson’s recovery in at least one game this season after Fox Sports Southwest has announced an agreement to telecast five remaining Toros games this season.
The first game on their schedule will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when the Toros meet the New Mexico Thunderbirds.
Other games on the schedule include:
Thursday, Feb. 10 — Austin vs. Rio Grande Valley, 7:30 p.m.
Monday, Feb. 21 — Austin at Texas Legends, 7 p.m.
Thursday, March 3 — Austin vs. Texas Legends, 7:30 p.m.
Anderson should be there for at least the first game. I’m anticipating he will remain with the Toros through the weekend before rejoining the Spurs at the start of the Rodeo Road Trip Tuesday night in Portland, although he could return to the Spurs in time to play against Houston Saturday night at the AT&T Center.
LOL to all the posters who thought that playing for the Toros would somehow ruin him. He obviously is NBA-level talent, and just needs some conditioning with the Toros before he rejoins the big club.
If the teams aren't able to convince the league to let players play for D-league teams past 2 years (maybe 3 or 4), hopefully they can convince them to allow for rehab assignments like this one with JA...except for older players as well.
exactly. this is the perfect situation for him.
never knew lil wayne player for the toros
