Cubby also thought Steve Blake played defense, tbh.
I never said that. I was hot for Blake, but, just because I thought he wouldn't get shaken comin' under the L.A. bright lights.

No way in I would ever get into an argument debating the greatness of Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The dude should replace Jerry West on the NBA logo.

Can anyone possibly imagine Jordan saying:

"I really would have loved to compete against Tim Duncan. Driving to the basket with that bug eyed, no vertical having, average-at-best-shot-blocker in my way would be the ultimate test."
    No.

I can imagine him saying now "I would trade half these mother ers in a package deal for Tim TODAY".

Yes it was. Hard fouls and contact happened but basketball has always been finesse based. You'd know that if you actually watched the game instead of reading about it
I don't know if I'd call 90's basketball very "finesse".

I think Tim Duncan was/is an amazing player, with a relatively unique skillset. That said, he'll never be remembered by fans at large as true "icon" the way that Kobe is, or Shaq is, or any other number of "larger-than-life" players.

He's a historic defender, but I don't think anyone was afraid to try and score on him. He's a great scorer, but I don't think anyone was afraid of defending him. Some players evoke that "Oh crap, he's on fire!" feeling, but I don't think I've ever gotten that about Duncan.

Duncan made a ton of plays where you would get pissed off at your team for trying to challenge him. He often seemed to always be in the right spot to alter a shot, which is underrated.
This has everything to do with him playing/staying in a small market. EVERYTHING to do with it. You would be a lot more frightened by a Duncan led team if he was wearing purple and gold his whole career, because the media would tell you to be... that's all it is. Spurs fans know what kind of player he is and how great he really is and that's all that really matters to him. Best PF to ever play the game.

Even small market teams had players I've been worried about/scared of. But I don't think anyone who went against Duncan was intimdated by him. Frustrated? Sure. But not intimidated.

Again, this takes nothing away from TD's play. The man is great, and like I said, is almost always in the right position. I just don't think he's the type of person you see where you say, "Oh crap, that guy is going to block everything" like, say Ben Wallace, Mutumbo, etc etc. TD just doesn't look physically imposing.

Everytime I watched Duncan play, for the most part, it wasn't alot of "Wow" moves. It's mostly just great play, good footwork, good hands, etc etc. He wears a player down mentally. But I don't think his "highlight reel" is half as full as other superstars.

    Well said LnGrrrR.

Makes no difference where the man played if you base your opinion exclusively on how he played the game itself.

Since Duncan has a who hum kinda at ude, you don't see a KG "look at me I made a play at ude", then you look at the boxscore after the game, and you see another double double, 3 blocked shots, etc....

No way in I would ever get into an argument debating the greatness of Kareem Abdul Jabbar. The dude should replace Jerry West on the NBA logo.
No ones arguing Kareem wasn't great; he's a top 5-6 player in history. I just don't think he can be the GOAT because Moses used to kick his piss flaps in on a regular basis from 1977 on.

You're a parrot that has apparently never seen either play.

Jordan was slapped so bad by a young Kobe he refused to guard him the rest of the game to avoid further embarrassment. Let's apply that to your NBA 'book-learned' logic.
I don't know how I missed this nugget. So during Jordan's second three-peat Kobe had one good meaningless regular season game (in which Jordan still outplayed him: http://www.basketball-reference.com/...712170CHI.html) during which the 34 year old Jordan passed him off to Pippen who was an all-time great defender, in 20 point LA loss only laker fan remembers, meanwhile in the 1981 playoff series between the Rockets and Lakers, Moses got 38 and 23 in a close game one win including 17 second half rebounds and the lakers had Jim Chones guarding him because the 34 year old Kareem didn't want none of that. And in the clinching game when Moses put up a 20/20 the Lakers had Jim landsberger guard him in the fourth quarter.

So if 35 year old Jordan supposedly didn't want to guard 20 year old Kobe in some meaningless regular season Bulls blowwout (even though we all know Jordan owned Kobe on the reg during those second three-peat days) and that means Jordan should be indicted somehow, then what the does that say about 34 year old Kareem who wouldn't guard Moses IN GAMES THAT ING MATTERED, IN A 3 GAME SERIES HIS TEAM ING LOST, IN WHICH MOSES PUT UP 94 POINTS AND 54 REBOUNDS.

At least Kobe was compe ive enough to take Rondo when no one else could guard him. Kareem just ignored Moses and hoped he would go away just like he did in his book.

Kobe has ONE season MVP... ONE. He didn't win a le that year. Jordan has 5.

    Jordan 5

    Kobe 1

He didn't get one while playing with Shaq.

That's because he's not the man in the relationship.

    Multiple MVP winners

    6 - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
    5 - Michael Jordan
    5 - Bill Russell
    4 - Wilt Chamberlain
    3 - Larry Bird
    3 - Magic Johnson
    3 - Moses Malone
    2 - LeBron James
    2 - Tim Duncan
    2 - Karl Malone
    2 - Steve Nash
    2 - Bob Pet
