    O.J. Mayo suspended 10 games

NEW YORK -- Memphis Grizzlies guard O.J. Mayo has been suspended without pay for 10 games for violating the NBA's anti-drug policy, the league announced Thursday.

The league said Mayo tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone, which is a steroid precursor known as DHEA.

His suspension will begin with Friday night's game between the Grizzlies and the Philadelphia 76ers.

I wonder do NBA players take this type of steroids to heal up faster? Not sure, but didn't Rashard Lewis get busted for the same thing last year?

Too bad. not that bright (most torjans aren't LOL) but:

    1. He lit the fire that shined the light on the Reggie Bush stuff at SC
    2. he is no longer a starter after neing a lotto pick
    3. he was traded for Kevin Love who is beasting

I think he would be a decent triangle PG but I dont know he seems to have regressed. kind of smal for a two guard. I remember he had a lot of hype but scouts pointed out that he did not have any exceptional athletic gifts that put him in the class of the best college/NBA prospects...

Wasn't his athletic ability. OJ Mayo is a very good athlete. 41 inch vertical. Speed and quickness fine for either guard position. Allows him to be a pretty good defender too.

It's that he's best suited as a 2-guard and he has short arms. For example, Dwyane Wade is about the same height as Mayo but he has a 7 foot wingspan. Mayo has a 6'6 wingspan. He's small for the 2 guard because of his length, not because of his athleticism.

Too bad. Lakers farm system in shambles.

I seriously wish Timmy would take a few cycles of roids. D Howard is definitly on roids, no human can get that big naturally.

I don't know about Howard, but DROB was really cut, and I never heard him linked to roids and hope I never do.

I really don't think Dwight is on roids.

Tim could be huge if he just lifted, ever, in his career. My arms are probably bigger and he's got me by at least a foot. Seriously, if Tim did 10 bicep curls and 10 tricep extensions this summer, he'd come back next season with arms twice as big. I'm almost certain Duncan does zero weight training.

Weight training doesn't agree with a lot of bodies, in regards to basketball..I'm sure it has been suggested to Timmy before, it probably wasn't suited for him..there's a reason you don't see too many bodybuilding types in the NBA..

As for the subject, Mayo continues to be one of the most overrated prospects in the NBA..

DHEA isn't much of a roid.

Unless I'm mistaken, I think you can still find it in the vitamin sections of Wal-Mart and HEB.

I don't mean for Timmy to cycle so he can get bigger, just so he heals faster and degrades at a slower pace and with less injuries. Look at Terrel Owens, he's on HGH I assume, he doesn't have ginormous muscles like a body builder but he's still lightning fast, ripped, hardly ever injured, and still competes at a high level at his age.

    Duncan does some weight training.

This is from 2007. It's the quickest I could find in his own words where he mentions the weight room, but his off-season routine is still pretty much this. He has done the tractor tire flipping and other stuff over the years.

You are known as a very skilled player. What kinds of things do you do in the off-season to hone your basketball skills, like footwork and shooting?

Duncan: I work a lot on my shot, but it’s hard to work on footwork. The experience from games— going through a whole season where your body and feet endure many different situations—is where you can pick things up. I just try to get in the best shape I can strength-wise and do a lot of running in the summer to build a good base for the season. I worked really hard last summer to improve my shot. Those things have been my biggest focus over the summers. But I usually take about a month off after the season for recovery purposes, then I get back in the weight room and start things slowly. I stay off the court for another two to three weeks after that, then I work on-court drills back in slowly as well.

I question the legit of that vert ...where did you pull it from? and he measured under 6 foot 3 without shoes in the pre-draft camp. Couldnt find the scouting report that questioned his athleticsm they did not say he was a BAD athlete, just not a wade, Lebron or even Rose (same draft)

Remember he was the #1 ranked player by many coming out of HS even over Rose ...

Im with Harlem, if legit he needs to use it a lot more ...

And like i said for a top 3 pick the report said he was a good not special athlete and his play indicates that, if not his measurables.

Mayo is not speed demon. His straight line speed can't compete with some of the really fast players in the league. And obviously he's not going to out-bench Dwight Howard any time soon. But the rest of his "athletic" measurables were always pretty good, specifically jumping ability and agility. For example, from the same draft class, Derrick Rose's max vertical and agility times weren't as good as Mayo's.

His arms aren't quite Kevin Willis T-Rex short, but they're just barely average, and for an NBA athlete, fairly short for his height.

Also if accurate same link shows Rose has 40 inch vert but his standing vert is 4 inches beter than Mayo's ...maybe that is why Rose "seems" more athletic.
