Pretty good article. Exactly what a lot of Aggies are thinking right about now.

As an SEC fan I welcome them. The best just get better with that move.

But we won't be a 13 team league. A&M would be joining the SEC-West with the Hogs, Bama, Auburn, MSU, LSU, and the Black Rebel Bears. The SEC will be hounding either Clemson or Florida State in my mind for an addition to the East. Georgia Tech is out of the picture for historical reasons.

    I'm for FSU.

I hope A&M does it (like before)...but man, that is a brutal schedule for football. And between Clemson & FSU, I'd think Clemson the better fit.

A&M would be the best or second best basketball team in the SEC and the other sports would do quite well. But football...hard to imagine many 9-3 or 10-2 seasons. Although, I think A&M would fair better long term than many give them credit for.

A&M really is a perfect fit for the SEC. They would certainly get annihilated though, at least at first.

It's an opion piece; nothing factual.

He does speak what everyone else is thinking in one are, however:
"Texas A&M can't compete with Texas absent the cachet of the SEC"

And let's not kid anyone; the main reason SEC wants atm is because they are dying to have games in the state of Texas for recruiting. atm to the SEC opens up Texas to SEC recruiting. Plain and simple. UT doesn;t want atm going to the SEC because UT doesn't want Bama and Florida and UGA and so on auditioning on an annual basis in the state to local recruits.

I'd be for FSU in addition to us. I don't follow the inner workings of Florida college football too closely, but wouldn't the 'Noles be in a similar situation as A&M--trying to get out from under the thumb of the other flagship state school?

you mean, the SEC wants A&M cause of money? holy ...what insight. but it doesn't matter, since cap'n crunch says A&M cannot leave t.u. and/or is bluffing.

A&M will leave if its best for them. there isn't any reason to think they won't be given the same freedoms that allowed t.u. their chosen path.

There are pros and cons to going but it's definitely a no brainer looking at our relationship with Texas. We will never get out of their shadow if we don't pull the trigger on this and yes, we will probably be fighting for 6 wins our first few seasons in the conference, but I believe that would change and most Aggies acknowledge this. They're things that could make it difficult on us compared to other SEC schools like our admission requirements being higher then most schools in the conference but the pros outweigh the cons

Also, for all the SEC fans saying "The Aggies are just going to get their ass beat". Yeah, you are probably right and not one of us is claiming that we are going to go in there and start regulating that conference in football, so just stop making yourself look like an idiot.

By making the switch we immediately get more exposure with their tv deal, more guaranteed $ a year, we would be compe ive in all sports non-football from day 1, we would be able to offer Texas recruits who don't want to leave home the opportunity to play in the nations best conference, Texas A&M immediately becomes a top 10 job in the country leading to better coaching candidates and such down the road, and we become apart of other universities and fan bases that we fit better with from a cultural standpoint, e.g., conservative, military.

    I hope it happens soon.

so stating a fact is looking like an idiot?

you know what's idiotic? going to a conference that you're in no way, shape, or form equipped to be compe ive in.

No actually believing that A&M would be the next Vandy makes you look like an idiot. Moving conferences will definitely throw your program off a notch and it might takes a few years to recover but if you actually believe that A&M stays down that long (becomes the next vandy) while being the lone SEC team in Texas then you are delusional.

I was simply stating that because of all the SEC fans who constantly repeat that fact, acting like we don't know this.... We all know that it's going to be a rough couple of years, okay? So you're not offending anyone when saying it, you're just

Also, I assume you are just talking about football correct? because we immediately become compe ive in every other sport being played.

"The Aggies are going to get their in asses beat!!!!!!!!"
"Ah yeah man, what the are they thinking?!?! They think they can just come into our conference and kick our asses?? GTFO!"

It looks stupid because most A&M fans already realize that we won't be good in the conference for a while.

If they jerk us around again about going to the SEC and then stay in the Big 12, they'll have to worry about unruly mobs with torches and pitchforks. For most people, that's just a euphemism. Farmers fight!

I don't know about not being compe ive in football. They have made strides the last few years.

Giving LSU and Arkansas a and being on their way up lately makes me think they will be fairly compe ive to start with.

I'm sure Ole Miss is cringing at the idea of A&M joining.

But if they do join we can't be the SEC anymore. Maybe the South Conference. THE South Conference. Heh.

agreed, A&M won't struggle as much as some are saying. and the other sports? A&M will be more than compe ive...favorites in a few.

I think we would be fine. Sure there would be growing pains, but being the only Texas school in the SEC definitely wouldn't hurt recruiting amongst all the kids looking to stay in state.

At best we could be an Arkansas, a team that's always compe ive and challenges for a division le every couple years. I'd be okay with that as it would be an improvement from what we've done the last 10 years. We'd certainly be better than Vandy, Ole Miss, MSU, UK, right off the bat and could mix things up with Arkansas, Tenn, UGA, and USC. I know I mixed divisions, but I just dont think things would be as pathetic as some are making it out to be. Of course, any aggie who thinks we'd win a conference le is delusional without some sort of pay for play plan.

In the other sports, we would be top 5 for the most part. This would definitely be good for basketball where I think we would consistently challenge for the conf le.

I'm all for it since I live in SEC country and it would give me an opportunity to see them play more often.

Big 12 sweeps SEC in Texas A&M Challenge, Aggies win five events:

    http://www.aggieathletics.com/sports...012911aab.html

This is in track. We'd be compe ive and/or at the top in sports outside of football. Given the recruiting advantage of being the only SEC team in Texas would be huge, plus we've been making strides in football over the last few years.

    It just makes sense.
