My, how long we've come.
yeah you needed a phone line to dial up
the internet
You've Got Mail
Who was the voice that said that?
That guy was priceless.
Gumbo over there sounds like my dad talking about the internet...only more moody and loud.
I remember when 56k modems came out and you were excited until your ISP told you they didn't have any 56k lines you could call.![]()
I remember when I had this idea, to make a website where people can join up and post what they are thinking about, photos, stuff like that.
stic.net, ftw.
yeah... I had stic. 10 bucks a month.
I remember the old text BBSs you could dial into before the internet though. 30min to download one nuddy pick.
icq.net
compuserve.com
Computron
Reminds me of my dumbass dad getting excited for 4g, but living in a "drop zone".
But man, aol couldn't have come at a better time for me (teenager). It was dial-up but that was the start of a new age of dating with those aol chatrooms. I couldn't believe how easy it was to get girls this way! It was pretty amazing.
I like how Gumbel sold out Couric for not knowing what the @ symbol means.
chatrooms in the late early 2000's ftw
ICQ ftw
"uh-oh!"
"that's how people were able to communicate during the quake when the phone lines were down"
"so you don't need a phone line to use the internet?"
