There is not doubt LA is taking this game ultra serious. There will be no coasting or just a "regular season" game talk today. LA wants it bad and we have to see how they play when they are serious to know more about their team.
Yup..
Worrying about HCA in the Finals is pointless right now IMO..I would be happy for the Spurs just to get there, regardless of HCA..

Historical rivalries don't die, they just lay dormant until the time is right.
No one outside of Boston or LA cares about the "rivalry" any more.
A lot of people still care about Redsox/Yankess across the country and not just their fans, but baseball fans in general.
No one cares about Bos/La.
I would say the ratings differ with your argument.
Second, since when do rivalries have to be "national" to be true rivalries? I don't care about Alabama/Auburn. Does that mean it's not a true rivalry?
Where did I say it wasn't a true rivalry? I said no one cares about it.
Ratings say otherwise. You =/= everyone.
Ratings. It gets good ratings because it's two big markets. Tons of Laker fans, tons of Boston fans.
Put it this way, if you go onto fan boards, such as ST, who are the diehard basketball fans of the world, no one cares.
Tell me DPG, what rivalry exists today in the NBA that every fan cares about again?
So what rivalries do true bball fans care about, that aren't related to one of their teams?
There really are no true great rivalries that draw fans of the game in imo regardless of who they root for.
There are some good rivalries, but none that really have the allure of the all time great rivalries across sports.
Let's recap: No one cares about this rivalry except two of the biggest markets, following the two most successful NBA franchises, franchises which have millions of fans scattered throughout the country. Good argument.
Well then you have a pretty stringent definition of rivalry. Besides Sox/Yankees, what other rivalries exist?
I think Federer/Nadal, North Carolina/Duke, Tiger/Phil (even though that has suffered a bit recently), Manchester/Arsenal
Like I said, there are few rivalries that still draw fans of the game to them. People will still watch the Finals of every sport because they like the sport, but hamming up the LA/BOS rivalry is just a ploy. No one cares anymore.
You think Tiger/Phil, North Carolina/Duke, and Federer/Nadal are bigger rivalries than Lakers/Celtics?
I'm guessing that Celtics/Lakers will draw more people than any of those events.
Gonna be a great game, always gets chippy with these teams.
Again, LA/BOS are two of the biggest sports markets, that alone will naturally have a high viewing numbers.
I am not saying no one watches. I am saying that no one cares about the rivalry. It has lost it's luster.
The ones I mentioned seem to have fans of the game still drawn into them because of the rivalry. Because of the names involved. I am referring to people who are not just fans of the individual or team.
Come clean DPG, you're trolling me right?
A game between two teams who have won the last three les, the last coming in a game 7 between them. With both teams strong contenders this year.
Yup, no luster there.![]()
No trolling. Ask around for non Bos/La fans. No one cares about "the rivalry". , Spurs/Mavs over the last 10 years have been more relevant and had by far more exciting playoff match ups and no one cares about that outside of Spur/Mav fans.
No one is saying that both teams aren't great recently. No one is saying it won't be a fun game to watch, but it has nothing to do with some historical rivalry that no one cares about outside of Bos/La.
Also,You keep saying things that aren't relevant and that I did not say. Again, I never said the game today has no allure or has no luster. I said that the rivalry has lost luster and that no one cares about the historical rivalry.
I have to diasagree with you DPG. I'm a Spurs fan 1st and always, but the Celts and Lakers are a great rivalry. Alot of tradition between these two.
I met plenty of spurs fans that care about this rivalry. Now you are just looking foolish, comparing spurs/ mavs to Lakers/Celtics.
Sure, I never said they weren't a rivalry. I said it is not the same as it used to be. It isn't one that draws tons of sports fans (outside of BOS/LA fans) to it. I am not a tennis fan, but I watch Nadal/Federer. That is what I am talking about.
Ok, I can understand that. I thought you were saying only Bos/LA fan is watching this game.
O'really? Recently, (the past 10 years) Mavs/Spurs haven't had more heated battles and been more relevant?
Before the Celtics acquired KG and Ray and the Lakers got Gasol, no one cared when the two played each other.....
