That is it and that is all.
Mchale is the textbook but The Dream was unorthodox and overall, objectively the best. But then, Skyhook > *.
Kobe is Hakeem to MJ's Mchale at this point.
Worthy deserves mention as he could back you down or face up depending on the defender andat Harlem having Bird over Dantley on his list (well he does think Lebron has a post game, so) Two words: finger roll.
I can't believe I've read this entire post and no one has mentioned Bill Russell or Tim Duncan, two of the best post players in the history of the NBA. Personally I'd rank Russell #1. BTW here's Bill Simmons all-time ranking (leaving off the non-post players) which I don't have a problem with:
2 - Bill Russell
3 - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
6 - Wilt Chamberlain
7 - Tim Duncan
10 - Hakeem Olajuwon
11 - Shaquille O'Neal
12 - Moses Malone
I'm 90% sure it is Pau Gasol. Amirite laker fans?
I was under the assumption that this thread was about "post-up ability", not the "best big men"..
If so, Bill Russell shouldn't be anywhere near this thread..
umm... ok... to me "Post Player" means a player who plays inside on both offense and defense. "Post-up ability" is just a subset of the offensive ability of a post player.
But, whatever... I didn't start the thread.
Fair enough..
