I think teams are finding out how to guard Gasol. You start off by pushing him around and being very physical, and then he goes into passive mode, forcing Bryant to resort to chucking.

It's kind of shocking to watch his decline against elite teams, really. If it continues, I have to wonder if Pau can continue to be considered a top tier PF.

For a moment I thought Pau could surpass Timmy...but not looking so...Pau clearly can't lead a team...

At least you got those 16 Larry O'Brien's, eh Cubby?
, they're nice, yes, but, I remember '84 and the Tim Thomas shot by Phoenix lots more. I'll take those two to the grave.

Gasol reverted to '08 for some gd reason. The bellowing on shot attempts, the flailing of arms on defensive events, the split second stoppage to argue with the refs on possession changes.

    Ugh.

You mean career wise or season wise? Career wise... that's pretty ridiculous, even from you. Duncan in his prime would have absolutely annihilated Gasol on both ends of the court without breaking a sweat.

Though Gasol couldn't win a single playoff game till Kobe took him in.

Look at it this way - had Thomas missed that shot and the Lakers won, they would've been butt ed by the Clippers.

Lakers losing to the Clippers in the playoffs would be the most disturbing thing in sports history.

I'd wait to start giving up on Gasol when/if this happens in the playoffs. He was vital in both championships and in getting to the 2008 finals.

but that got is just not greedy like Kobe... that's the difference...he has no legit reason other than being a Euro to be flaming out like this...I'd expect Fish and Kobe to slow down more so than Gasol...

I see that now...but since you guys bestowed upon Gasol the "King of the Lakers" le it was fitting...now that it should be clear in your minds "she'll" never supersede Kobe we can proceed on...

I tell you what I will not stand by and watcha repeat of the shaq/Kobe drama ...doubt it will happen ...but if it did I would lose a lot of respect for the parties involved.

Many of you here have hit the mail onthe head ... it's up to Pau to demand the rock and not expect to be spoonfed by kobe or anyone else. If he is playing well he will see the rock but right now Kobe playing iso even with a help defender is a higher % shot than Pau in the paint ...

McMenamin of ESPN LA has a pretty nice article about how Gasol reverted back to his pussy ways. I guess we were all to quick to crown Pau as the MVP of the Lakers.

Kobe wouldn't have gotten number 5 if it hadn't been for Pau bailing him out on the offensive glass in game 7.

If that didn't teach him to defer, nothing will.

Who is fleeing? why would "rats" show up AFTER a loss?

Of course Kobe would not have two additional les withouut Pau. they don't win inthe finals last year without key contributions from fisher and Artest in Games 3 and 7 ...

What does any of that have to do with Pau playing soft when he is needed?
Like i said I doubt this becomes a Shaq/Kobe type issue ...but I dont appreciate that kind of soap pera crap ESPN does ...

As for Kobe in THAT game i dont blame him for being so aggressive ...we looked flat except for a couple stretches and his efforts kept us in it. To win though Kobe needs help and he could of forced it more to Pau but I doubt last night we get much out of it ...

Anyone know any good waxers??? Someone should email Pau's agent just to make sure Pau gets a brazilian on his vagina before the playoffs start hahaha. When ratliff comes back I would shut him down for 2-3 games just to give him a breather. He gets paid like 17 mil a year so he has no excuses but European players are built differently.

"Whenever we play games like that, we give Kobe no choice but to try to take over the game," Odom said. "We just didn't get everybody involved like we needed to."

I'm not dismissing the facts that Gasol can't pass the ball to himself or that it's 15 years into Bryant's career and he still can't help but try to win a game on his own from time to time. Bryant's zero assists on Sunday jump from the box score as much as his 41 points do.

Gasol was hardly the lone problem against the Celtics. The Lakers were outscored 59-42 in the second half, allowing Rajon Rondo to rack up 15 of his 16 assists after the break. Ron Artest went 1-of-10 on offense and could do nothing to stop Paul Pierce from scoring 32 points.

But Gasol is the three-time All-Star; it's his duty to rise up to be the yin to Kobe's yang to maintain the health of the team, even if he has to force it sometimes to make it happen.
From the Dave M. ESPN article ...Lamar at least gets "it".

Kobe had certainly faults that cost the game but the last person who should be calling him out is Pau Gasol

Don't get me wrong kobe shoulders some blame for that loss too ...

Also, let's give props to celts as well. I have been calling the celts the favorites all season long. I saw nothing in the OKC/MIA game or the Laker game to convince me otherwise. Yes we are the defending champs and yes the Spurs have a better record bt Celts are playing the best ball so far THIS season ...

and all you whiny pricks that was playing the "what if" card none of that ish matters. Celts won in 2008 and look like faves in 2011 so far ...that is and that is all ... LOL

Celts need to stay healthy. If they can do that, I love our chances of getting back to the finals. It looks like this team might have 1 more run left in em after all.
