Oh Nono.
You try so hard to be included. Perhaps padding your post count a little bit more and then we'll all concede that you've "made it" and welcome you into the club. Cool?

I thought so too. Derek is going to be a good head coach or GM somewhere someday.

The discussion wasn't whether teams hired stat guys. Some do, some don't.
We were talking about the game of basketball when Moron In Black decided to bring up stats.
If Pop and Phil were talking ball do you think either one of them would have say "do you have the stats to support that?"
Lol, no that type of horse geek talk is reserved for a bunch cyber dweebs sitting at a desk looking at the beautiful game of basketball reduced to raw data in numerical form.
You make it seem as if a Laker and Former Laker weren't hanging out with RJ in the Med.
What up Luke Walton and Kareem Rush?![]()
No need to move the goalposts or start backpedaling now...
This is what you said:
Are you calling coaches and team GM's fanboys "with no comprehensive understanding of how the game is played"?![]()
Did you not just proclaim that Tony Parker is the worst PG defender in the league? How did you quantify that? If you just used observation, then it's blatantly clear that the worst PG defender in the league is the LAL's own Derek Fisher, followed closely by The fundamentally solid defender known as Steve Blake(r).![]()
They might not say it but hey...it's in the back of their minds and acknowledgment by them indicates it's importance.
Even on the Laker Media Guide one can find the following terminology:
Statistical assistance from Bob Rosen, Chris Thorn and the Elias Sports Bureau.
I guess he never saw Phil Jackson on a playoff post-game press conference picking up the stat sheet and going through the numbers while answering questions...
Phil is the ultimate fanboy...
Wow what a load of horse . Coaches discuss stats. That's all they have to go by. They cannot keep up with what's going on without stats. They don't just think it's a ing musical out there, all beautiful and . Ask Pop to run a game without knowing the score, minutes, turnovers, offensive boards and fastbreak points. Let me know how that goes.
Pop on Blair starting:
“He’s finding his way. He’s trying to figure out where to be in relation to everybody else,” Coach Pop said. “With all those crazy stats people do these days, that group comes out a big plus. It’s hard to argue with it.”
Pop the fanboy...
Guys like Rich Cho? You betcha. Advanced stat geek.
Can he teach the game of basketball? Nope. Why? Because he's a stat nerd. You can try all you want from now til the day you die to reduce the game down to a series of statistical formulas and algorithms and you'd still never get close to what its really all about.
All teams employ statisticians who record stats, which are obviously useful to an extent. They don't and will never be able to measure defense since it is impossible to measure human effort. Hence why in a conversation about defense and MIB the idiot asks for stats he's immediately dismissed. Only an idiot talks statistics when it comes to defense.
And Pop isn't a stat geek. Are you telling me he's not actively coaching your team out there? He has nothing to say or instruct or change in his players? He just points to a clipboard with stats on it and says "weeeee."
You guys crack me up.

And BTW, you you didn't say one word about statisticians. I know you're trying to backpedal and move the goalposts as quickly as you can, but you actually said "Stats are for fanboys"
You can't make this up...![]()
Because it was a reference to whom Man_in_Black cited from the Laker media guide Einstein.
You were answering to my post, Einstein...
Do you even know what you're typing?
And do you think when Pop was working with RJ this summer on how to improve his game he just looked at advanced stats?
"In this game RJ you scored a lot of points and were very efficient. Just go out and do that on a nightly basis until your +/- rises." - Pop, the stat geek
I quoted your post but was addressing you and MIB on the same subject. Is it really that difficult?
You were in error, suck it and move on kid.
That guy![]()
Does Pop use stats as part of his decision process?
Yes or No. Simple question.
The difference being that the Lakers are forced to have a short rotation, due to them having no bench. Lol, history your getting a real chance to get this thread in classics. Please continue.
You'd have to ask Pop.
I'd imagine that he decides what he does based on what he sees, just like he did before the advent of advanced statistics, lending some consideration to trends but never the guiding factor.
Like I said before, anyone who wants to talk game and immediately goes to the stat sheet is an absolute idiot and I know Pop ain't one of them no matter how much you want to be for the sake of this conversation.
Cubby, gettin his ass tasting on. Yer adorable, tee hee
So now that we got that out of the way...
Is Pop a fanboy?![]()
