Why the Black Panther Case Matters

In any other cir stance, if an administration 1) claimed utterly bogus privileges never before recognized by law, 2) dragged its feet for 16 months on a rather simple internal investigation, 3) put partisan officials in place to oversee or skew the investigations, and 4) stiffed Congress and the media and an independent agency on formal, legally weighty information requests, then the axis of CBS/New York Times/AP/White House press corps would be in full-on Watergate mode with breathless updates about the latest nefarious occurrences.
    Indeed.

Do Obama officials actually believe that the law is really meant to protect some but not others?

    Why, yes...yes they do.

(“People are wondering why aren't you bring cases with voting and African-Americans–what is the issue,’ said Julie Fernandes of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. ‘How can it be that the biggest case involving discrimination in Mississippi [United States v. Ike Brown and Noxubee County] was brought on behalf of white voters. . . .The law was written to protect black people.’”
Ms. Fernandes is an Assistant Attorney General working in Holder's DOJ.

It doesn't bother you that a senior official in the Department of Justice believes equal protection laws were written for a particular race?

People in this country have never been treated equally. In this case, the minority happens to be on the opposite side of things, and whites play the victim.

Nevertheless, we should demand equal protection from Government.

No it doesn't bother him. George is a re ed mother er that has zero clue what he is spewing. He just ask stupid questions and giggles now. It's obvious what the black panthers with billy clubs were doing in front of a polling station on election day unless you a re ed mother er like George or you are a lefty democrat. Of course George is not a lefty democrat because when George wasn't giggling and asking questions he told us he was voting for McCain, a republican until Palin showed up. Now George will take EVERY democratic talking point and back every policy the Obongo administrations supports. I'm telling you George has some re in him. I'm 100% certain of that.

No, because those laws were designed to protect black citizens from oppression by mostly white government officials. Whether you like it or not your white ancestors did some pretty ed up to black people. Those laws protect us all, but they were created originally to protect black people from white people.

I.O.W. her statement is factually/historically accurate. It would bother if she or any doj official was not enforcing the law equally for all citizens regardless of race, but she/they are despite what your blogger friends tell you.

First of all, considering the number of African-Americans in America (currently around 15% -- I don't know what it was in the 60's), there were as many, probably more, probably way more, whites, fighting for their equal rights at the time of the civil rights movement. It wasn't a black vs. white issue; it was a right vs. wrong issue.

Second, claiming the law was written for black people as a way to justify the current actions of the DOJ, vis-a-vis the New Black Panther Case, is the injustice to which I refer.

I suggest you go back a few months and look at some of your own posts. Once upon a time, you were fairly reasonable and well-spoken. Now, you've become as shrill as boutons.

    Enjoy your insanity, George.

By the way, none of your questions are relevant to the issue of whether or not there is a DOJ Assistant Attorney General who believes laws were written to the benefit of only one race.

you chicken less right-wingers don't want or expect any push back to your insane bull and lies.

When did Yoni complain about the 1000 Brooks Brothers lawyers invading FL to swing the 2000 vote? Or the 100s of Repug thugs that rioted outside of recounting offices to intimidate the recounters?

Of the Repug FL Sec of State falsely excluding (mostly black) voters from the rolls? Or the "road works" and bus route changes in black neighborhoods on voting day?

the fact that whites outnumbered blacks and controlled local/state/federal government at that time meant that it was possible/likely/easy for whites to oppress blacks in almost every aspect of life for a long period of our nation's history. I know you want to rewrite the history of race-relations in this country, so I'll expect this point to sail right past your head.

Second, claiming the law was written for black people as a way to justify the current actions of the DOJ, vis-a-vis the New Black Panther Case, is the injustice to which I refer.
if you had actually read the article you cited about ms. hernandez, you'd understand that she stated the well-known, historic fact about the civil rights era prior to becoming a doj official. to claim it is her/their justification for any pos ion they choose to take on the black panther case is unfair and misleading.

I'm rewriting nothing, you ignore the fact that, because of their majority, whites were instrumental in gaining equality for blacks.

    You didn't read the article...

Most concretely, did Deputy Assistant Attorney General Julie Fernandes adopt a policy of not enforcing, or not enforcing in an equal manner, two separate laws relating to voting rights and procedures? Two sworn testimonies say that she said as much at specific, widely attended Civil Rights Division meetings in the fall of 2009, and further sworn testimony says she and the Obama team directly ignored a key lawyer's recommendation to enforce one of those laws against eight states in obvious violation thereof.

"whites were instrumental in gaining equality for blacks."

whites were guilty for 100s of years of enslaving blacks, raping blacks, falsefly imprisoning blacks, lynching blacks, and denying equality for blacks.
