i have an ibm for about 10 years and works like a champ.
i also have dell and i give them 2 dumbs up. best customer support i have experienced.
Lenovo is the IBM technology. IBM still owns 18% last I looked.

They may be Idiots Building Machines, but their computers were great.

if only used as a workshop, i'd suggest a notebook instead of a standard laptop. a notebook just good as any computer/laptop running deez office programs such as word powerpoint etc... if u want a game machine, why not take a look at PS3 or xbox instead?

Probably gonna go with Dell but what you sons say?? What's the top processor out now...I'm out the loop.

My current screen on my Dell is not working....I see the damn screen but very faint...have it connected to my TV now. Wonder how much it would cost to fix my old screen and wtf happened b/w using it last night and today.

Also save all your get a Mac lines....Macs can suck my balls...Iphone is enough apple for me...thanks and God bless

Suprised no one has asked yet....

What are you planning to use the laptop for?

    School?
    Gaming?
    CAD?
    Surfing toy?

Also, post your service tag for your dell. I can check warranty status and, if out of warranty, can check prices for replacement parts.

just an FYI, service tag doesnt provide any personal information, it just lets me know your laptops model and configuration options at the time of purchase as well as warranty status.

There's a chance I might have a similar model laptop at work that has a good screen but something else may be messed up. If thats the case, I have no problem parting it out as it was most likely going to be thrown out anyway. seriously, if you have a similar model from one of the laptops we continually trash out, I will just take off the monitor for you for free. If I have to ship it (assuming I have the same model) you just need to pay shipping fee's. If you are in S.A. I can even install it for you, no charge (only takes like 15 minutes).

I suppose it depends on what you are going to use the laptop for. My laptop is nothing but a toy for me; I don't go to school or run a business, I just pay my bills, email, do some shopping, visit some forums, read periodicals, download music, store pictures and the extent of my gaming is sudoku and mahjong. It would be absurd for me to pay for Mac because, just how much more wonderful can those few applications possibly be?

I've owned a Toshiba and it was great. But when I had to replace it, I was a bit more knowledgeable and did lots of comparing. Using Toshiba as a point of reference, I found that Acer came in $150-200 cheaper comparing models with the exact same features. A big plus was also that the Acer had only 2 worthless pieces of crap to uninstall compared to the Toshiba's 5 or 6. I was happy with Toshiba, but I got the Acer (Aspire 5740-5780 for $499) this time around and so far have been very happy with it.
I recently got an Acer a lot like yours but with an I5 instead of an I3. Good laptop - especially for 600 bucks.

I have the A-215 S7416. Got it on sale for $520 after taxes in December of 2008. I think I said three years ago is when I got this but really I guess it's going on 3 years.

The ONLY issue I have had with it was the display driver. I went to toshiba.com, support, downloads, put in my model and got the update and had no issues since.

I found a big sale at office depot online in September - MSI 15.6" i5 550m I believe with win7 and the dedicated GPU mounted to the i5 (only drawback) for $499. Works great, and loads very fast on startup which is awesome. Old HP laptop took forever

Well, that one isn't the 550m GPU, and only 1366 x 768. Shouldn't be that much... That Intel GPU isn't that great, and uses shared memory.
