"Freshman year in college in a university that includes people from all over the state and country is like 0 - 0, first quarter, opening tipoff, a second chance at social life basically. And if you get involved in social gatherings and you've got such potential to be successful as I do with my smarts and guitar playing ability then cool guys and beautiful women will flock to you and check you out and other guys will be left with droppings."

Looking at a cheaper, long range mil-surplus rifle. Thought about a mosin-nagant but alot of guys said you can do better than that. Dad has an old enfield british .303 he deer hunts with. Anything similar in price range you guys can think of?

I have a SKS, wife has a cheap .45 hipoint.

Dude, don't go that route...get this puppy...reasonable price, 1 MOA accuracy in the right hands, and the .300WSM will kill the out of anything in North America...

    http://www.gunsamerica.com/946771124...NS_300_WSM.htm

Thats a super good price on that rifle...

The Savages made in the last 5 years are the best value, best shooting rifles out of the box made anywhere. Button rifled barrels, accutrigger with adjustable break down to a crisp 1.5# pull...If I hypothetically had any I would say that I could shoot ragged "one hole" groups at 100 yards all day long. Hypothetically, of course.

last rifle I bought was a savage in .308, and yeah I can shoot sub-moa with it.. not quite one ragged hole, but I'm not a great shot...

but still, I'm a milsurp guy, I love them...

favorite milsurp I've owned was probably my swedish mauser. 6.5 x 55 is a great flat-shooting cartridge, and doesn't kill your shoulder.

dang, 300, where to keep them all...

only milsurps I might still want, would be maybe an older .303 enfield (WWI era), and a Finnish mosin (M-39).

not a milsurp, but wouldn't mind an M1A either, but too damn expensive.

I'm thinking about doing some cowboy action stuff when I get old...I've got an original 1873 Winchester saddle carbine with octagonal barrel that belonged to my GGF...

I thought we were already old...

I like CAS too. I remember maybe we talked about it around here a while back. I'm surprised you aren't currently into it.

back to replicas, they're getting pretty expensive. My shooting buddy has an original colt 1851 navy... but don't know if it's shootable or not. I bought an original trapdoor springfield 45-70 back in the mid-1980s for $395, in really nice condition... off a guy who was probably 75 or 80 years old. ah, the good old days. sold it a long time ago, now they are very expensive.

I like the .303 better than mosins. Both are still fairly cheap though. SKS's are fun to shoot, but they're pretty wimpy imo...

Are you planning a coup d'état or something, pawe?
If you know how many guns you own you dont have enough guns.

    - I tried the 442 and LCR and I liked both since they slide into my front pocket with ease. Was about to pick one but decided I will research more since they both have the internal locks and I heard it might malfunction.
I did purchase a 9mm hi point 995 carbine yesterday for only $210, cheap plinking gun.

I got to shoot a nagant before. I felt like I was vassili zaitsev sniping nazi s that day.

Now, dont you want to own a gun with that much historical baggage?

That's the thing, thought it was pretty cool to when i got my SKS, now I wish I had something with more history behind it. I know a newer rifle will smoke the out of an older one, but theres something to be said for having an old rifle. Everyone loves my dads enfield, i'd like something different.

I don't want an AR type gun if I did go new. What I think I would want is a similar type of caliber. I would love a deadly accurate, long range gun. Coyotes are a pretty big deal here, I really wouldn't use it on deer much. Anything is pretty much legal for deer around here, including my SKS and my wife's pistol.

actually the sks has alot of history behind it. its what kalishnakov (sp?) based the ak47 off of, and it was one of the weapons of choose for the vietcong. i think the north koreans and chinese used it during korea as well.

probably millions of the SKS's here are chinese SKS's. The US imported these back in the late-80s from chinese warehouses, still stored in cosmoline, and unissued. Not much history in those, except for sitting in storage. They were made up until 1970-71.

still fun to shoot though. reliable too.

Problem with wanting "deadly accurate" and "old military" is that they don't normally go together until you start getting into match rifles which are expensive...like multi thousand expensive.

You want a long range, super accurate coyote gun get a model 12 Savage in 22-250 or .204. I've made 500+ yard shots on prairie dogs and 350 is just automatic red mist.

If it's zombies he better have something that fires faster than a Mauser.
