When it's a dunk, the broadcaster usually specifies by calling it an "alley oop dunk." I always figured it's anytime a pass is thrown towards the rim and the guy receiving the pass leaves the ground and scores immediately after catching it. Doesn't need to be above the rim or a slam dunk.
Wade's pass had to be close enough to the rim for LeBron to do that without having to come back down with the ball after catching it. That's what made it so crazy to me. LeBron deserves credit to because he actually caught the ball in the air and layed it up without coming down first. But making that pass close enough to the rim for it to happen from the other baseline is beyond impressive.

an alley oop can be a highlight on either end, even if it's a nice dunk, the pass can be just as nice, if not nicer..in this case, this is easily the best pass of the year..
