denver cant do the deal till Melo is willing to sign in New Jersey. He hasnt show any indication that he is gonna extend there.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_yl...honynets021711The Denver Nuggets and New Jersey Nets are once again in advanced talks on the framework of a blockbuster trade for Carmelo Anthony(notes). And once again, Anthony must be sold on agreeing to a three-year, $65 million contract extension to push these long, winding negotiations to completion.
The Nets and Nuggets are discussing a deal that would send Anthony, Chauncey Billups(notes), Melvin Ely(notes), Renaldo Balkman(notes) and Shelden Williams(notes) to the Nets for Derrick Favors(notes), Devin Harris(notes), Troy Murphy(notes), Ben Uzoh(notes) and four first-round draft picks, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday night.
The Nuggets are expected to move Murphy and his $12 million expiring contract to a third team and sweeten the deal with one or two of the Nets’ draft picks.
Now, the pressure could be back on the New York Knicks to sweeten their offer and get Anthony before the Feb. 24 trade deadline. Knicks president Donnie Walsh has seemed willing to let Anthony go into free agency, when New York can try to sign him in the summer. The Knicks and Nuggets have negotiated steadily in recent weeks, but Denver has been frustrated with New York’s reluctance to part with key young players in a deal.
For the Nets, the next step would be for owner Mikhail Prokhorov to meet Anthony in Los Angeles during All-Star weekend and sell the Nuggets star on a future with the Nets. The New York Daily News reported that Prokhorov and Knicks owner Jim Dolan both have meetings scheduled with Anthony during the weekend.
With the Nets having twice previously thought they were close to completing a deal for Anthony, the Nuggets have been the more aggressive pursuer in this round of talks. Nuggets officials have long preferred New Jersey’s assets to those of New York, but it remains to be seen if Denver – and Anthony – is merely trying to use the Nets as leverage.
Sources said Anthony’s agents didn’t even know until Tuesday or Wednesday that the Nuggets and Nets had restarted talks. The teams resumed negotiations over a week ago when Denver called back the Nets in the aftermath of Prokhorov’s abrupt ending of talks on Jan. 19.
This is still a steep price for the Nets to pay for Anthony, and far more than the Knicks seem willing to give up. Among the draft picks the Nets are expected to give the Nuggets are their own 2011 first-round selection, the 2011 first-round pick they acquired from the Los Angeles Lakers, a future conditional first-rounder from the Golden State Warriors and another future first-rounder.
Walsh probably hasn’t given the Nuggets his best offer yet, and has been reluctant to include Danilo Gallinari and Landry Fields in a package. The Daily News reported Denver wanted the Knicks to include point guard Raymond Felton in a bigger package that would send Anthony and Billups to New York.
denver cant do the deal till Melo is willing to sign in New Jersey. He hasnt show any indication that he is gonna extend there.
You're right, however he has agreed to meet with the Knicks and Nets. For the Knicks' sake, they better hope the russian isn't very persuasive
would you go from a playoff team to a team that isnt gonna make the playoffs and is trading away all of its assets ?
The four 1st rounders part is a bit excessive.
I wouldn't, but it all depends if Carmelo wants to win, or just have the endorsements. The Knicks can wait, but as of now for Denver, they have to get something 4 him, so it will be interesting to see
i just cant see him signing an extension with NJ.... the nets will suck the rest of this year, and wont be very good next year, and they still wont be in brooklyn. seems like kind of a waste.
amare >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> lopez
and i think NY will have a much better chance to land paul or williams than NJ, especially if melo and amare are already there.

Sources tell The Record there is a tentative agreement between the Nets and Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony. Still need him to agree to an ext.

Melo update...
It’s pretty simple from my end. Everything I’ve heard thus far is to say that Melo will not be extending. Unfortunately, our video upload system is dragging so I can’t show you my conversation with Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post who knows Melo as well as anyone. His words:
Melo won’t extend in New Jersey.
I’ve heard that a few times today. More as the situation develops.
dont matter cubes is reportedly on his way to block the deal and steal melo. melo will be a mav when its all said and done no way cubes lets melo get away.
Be nice to one of the MavKrew and ask for trolling help.
I don't get why they would'n't just talk to Melo first and save everyone a ton of trouble.
I mean these assholes are going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, no I want this, no we'll give you that, but I also want this, okay but only if you give us that, well I'll give you that but you'll probably have to also give me this so I can give it to someone else who will also take that and the other thing.
Sound good, yeah sounds good to me, hey Carmelo do you want to play in New Jersey? no!
See what I mean?
Holy NJ just bent over and didn't bother to lube up if that offer is true.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slu...l-star-anthonyNuggets’ Anthony says Nets meeting is “news to me”
By Brian Mahoney
Carmelo Anthony said Friday “no meeting at all” is scheduled with the New Jersey Nets and didn’t know what he would say if one does happen.
Speaking at an NBA Cares community service event, Anthony said a reported meeting that Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov was seeking with the All-Star forward was “news to me.”
“I haven’t heard it,” Anthony said.
Russian billionaire Prokhorov told team executives last month to end drawn-out trade talks for Anthony, a day before they had been scheduled to meet.
“If I was to meet with that guy, to be honest I really don’t know what I would say,” Anthony said.
The Nuggets have looked into trading Anthony since he declined to sign a three-year contract extension worth nearly $65 million this season. The Nets have been close to a deal twice, and the New York Knicks are considered the other favorite to land Anthony if Denver decides to move him by Thursday afternoon.
Prokhorov’s spokeswoman insists nothing has changed with the impending NBA trading deadline, despite multiple reports of a possible meeting and/or deal. Prokhorov cited the high price the Nuggets were seeking and his frustration with the public nature of the talks when he halted them, not because of reports that Anthony only would agree to a long-term extension with the Knicks if he were dealt.
There are also reports that Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan wants to meet with Anthony this weekend. Anthony said there was no meeting scheduled with him, either, but seems to see the value in talking with a team that’s interested in him.
“Whether it’s Prokhorov or Dolan or (Lakers owner Jerry) Buss, the third team that just came out last week, whoever it is, you would want to sit down and have eye contact with him and get a feeling for him,” Anthony said.
my feeliing is maybe this was denvers way of telling knicks they better take back billups in a deal. scare them with a deal that the media is going nuts about which means nothign cause melo wont extend
Melo is a short sighted fool. The Nets will be better than the Knicks before too long
They have cap space after they sign him and they would be able to land Cp3 or Dwill once they move to Brooklyn in 2012. All Melo has to do is suck it up until the lockout. The nets could also package Lopez and see if they can land another star.
The Knicks blew $100mil on Amare's knees that will last a couple more years playing at that pace. They won't have capspace to sign Cp3 after they add Melo.
cp3/Melo/Lopez >>> Amare/Melo/crap
Melo definately isn't worth that package, but for NJ he is a must for a couple of reasons
1) Moving to Brooklyn and they need a star to sell tickets and to try and pry away waivering Knicks fans
2) Cp3 will go to NJ if Melo signs there, so essentially they are setting up to land 2 superstars
Looks like the Knicks are not done yet.
James Dolan met with Carmelo Anthony late Thursday in Los Angeles, The Daily News has learned, in what could be the first step in Anthony being traded to the Knicks.
Although the Nets and Nuggets have agreed on players that would be included in a proposed blockbuster trade, the Knicks and Nuggets are scheduled to hold a conference call on Friday afternoon, a high ranking Knicks official tells The News.
The four main players on the conference call will be Dolan, the Chairman of Madison Square Garden, as well as Knicks president Donnie Walsh. Nuggets owner Stan Kroenke and Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri will also be on the call.
The call indicates that the Knicks are definitely alive in their bid to acquire Anthony and that if both sides can agree on which players to trade a deal can be made.
The hold up is the Knicks reluctance to include Danilo Gallinari in the trade. The Nuggets want three starters, including Raymond Felton, a No. 1 pick and Eddy Curry's expiring contract.
The Knicks would get Anthony, Chauncey Billups plus other players to make the deal work under the salary cap guidelines, including Anthony Carter.
Anthony said Friday that he isn't aware of a meeting with Prokhorov. In all likelihood, Anthony is hoping that the Knicks and Nuggets can agree on a deal before he meets with Nets officials, including Mikhail Prokhorov, the team owner, as well as minority owner Jay-Z.
Nice work Melo! He is forcing the Knicks to pony up with a decent offer or else he will head to NJ.
Either way, the Nuggets won't get totally screwed. To get gallo/chandler/felton/curry/pick for Melo/CB is better than anything the Knicks really want to give up.
I hate the fact that CB is gone in either deal with NY or NJ![]()
most knicks fan would do that in a sec. the problem is coach dantoni doesnt want to trade his godson Gallo.
im praying melo agrees to this if im denver. 4 first rounders![]()
picks ain't valuable deez years as da years before. drafts after da 05' be rather weak in general imho. 4 1st rounders aint too big a prize fo melo imho.
