Holy NJ just bent over and didn't bother to lube up if that offer is true.
It sounds really bad at first, but their lottery pick isn't going to be anything good and that 1st rounder from LA is going to be a liability in a draft this bad. You're going to see tons of second round talent going in the first this year with the lockout looking inevitable. If you were a good prospect would you dump your scholarship and an extra year of young strange to go work at Burger King when the season gets called off? Now 2012 draft picks would be worth their weight in gold.

    4 1st round picks

I don't even know why they'd want the LA pick, seriously. Late first rounders aren't too attractive in normal years, but in a year when all the talent will probably stay put and all the crap will come out to get that guaranteed 1st round money, it's going to be really slim pickings with that draft choice. I mean, no way the owners are going to give up their 4 year ownership of players out the draft and no way the players could be stupid enough to give up the guaranteed money as the trade-off for it.

The New York Knicks have offered Danilo Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler and a first-round pick to the Denver Nuggets in a potential Carmelo Anthony trade, according to Howard Beck and Jonathan Abrams of the New York Times, who cite a team executive involved in the talks. The package is a player short of a reported Nuggets offer from last week, which also included rookie Landry Fields.
Why don't the Knicks just wait it out??

denver cant do the deal till Melo is willing to sign in New Jersey. He hasnt show any indication that he is gonna extend there.
Yeah, that's the hang up. Denver probably isn't dragging their feet at this point, NJ is looking for assurances.

Realistically, Denver's cupboard is going to be pretty damn bare. Word is, if they move Melo, Nene won't be far behind. Those tepid first rounders likely will still make the deprecated Denver roster next year.

I don't see that happening under any scenario. Denver will want to get something for him, even if it's to a "rental" team.

Denver now wants Fields AND Mozgov instead of Gallinari. LMAO

    They are acting completely unprofessional.

Every time a deal with either the Knicks or Nets is close to getting done they ask for more.

If the Knicks did say yes to that deal, they probably will ask for Gallinari again.

Folks, we're dealing with children here.

If this is true, and if Carmelo truly doesn't want to join a team without meeting with owner first, the deal with Nets is dead. More later.

Anthony to meet with Nets owner
    By Adrian Wojnarowski

Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony plans to give New Jersey Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov and minority partner Jay-Z a chance to sell him on accepting a three-year, $65 million contract extension on Saturday night, a source confirmed to Yahoo! Sports.

The meeting, first reported by the New York Daily News, has been several months in the making and comes as the New York Knicks and Nuggets have reached a stalemate in trade talks on a deal for Anthony. All along, Denver has preferred a deal with New Jersey that includes rookie forward Derrick Favors and multiple first-round draft picks over New York’s assets.

This has turned into a high-stakes game of leverage and bluffs, with Anthony and Prokhorov – despite numerous denials about a possible meeting – thrusting pressure on New York to keep improving its offer to the Nuggets.

The Nuggets’ star believes he needs to create leverage with the Knicks and keep the Nets as an option should a deal to New Jersey turn out to be the only way for him to get a contract extension and avoid the uncertainty of free agency.

Several Western Conference teams are still trying to get involved with Denver for Anthony – some even willing to take him without the assurance of a contract extension – but as one conference executive told Yahoo! Sports on Saturday: “Denver does not want to send him into the Western Conference.”

The Knicks made a revised offer on Friday that included Danilo Gallinari, Yahoo! Sports reported. The proposed Knicks-Nuggets deal would send Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Renaldo Balkman and Shelden Williams to the Knicks for Gallinari, Raymond Felton, Wilson Chandler, Eddy Curry and a draft pick.

Several league sources believe Knicks owner James Dolan is leaning heavily on the advice of former president and coach Isiah Thomas and undermining the negotiating process for current president Donnie Walsh.

The framework of a Nuggets-Nets trade – as Yahoo! Sports first reported on Thursday night – would include Anthony, Billups, Balkman, Williams and Melvin Ely and for Favors, Devin Harris, Troy Murphy, Ben Uzoh and four future first-round draft picks. The Nuggets would move Murphy’s $12 million expiring contract and one or two of the Nets’ picks to a third team.

The NBA’s trade deadline is 3 p.m. ET Thursday.

    Carmelo Anthony, Nets meet

The long-awaited meeting between Carmelo Anthony and the New Jersey Nets took place late Saturday afternoon at a Los Angeles-area restaurant, according to a league source.

The Nets owner, Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, and minority owner Jay-Z informed Anthony of the club's short-term and long-term vision -- the certainty of their move to Brooklyn for the start of the 2012-13 season, as well as their plans to build a championship-caliber team around him, largely through free agency.

Anthony was noncommittal after hearing the Nets' presentation, not saying whether or not he would sign the three-year, $65 million contract extension that is a prerequisite for the deal. He told the Nets he will think about the situation and would like to have a resolution before the end of the weekend.

The meeting lasted approximately 40 minutes. In addition to Prokhorov and Jay-Z, Nets general manager Billy King and CEO Brett Yormark were also present. Anthony was joined by his agent Leon Rose, as well as his business manager, Bay Frazier.

The New York Daily News first reported the meeting was planned.

The meeting happened despite Prokhorov saying earlier Saturday he had no plans to meet with Anthony. A spokeswoman for the Prokhorov, Elllen Pinchuk, released a statement saying that Prokhorov had not met with Anthony and has no plans to meet with the Denver Nuggets star.

"Just to update you, Mikhail has not met with and has no plans to meet with Carmelo Anthony," Pinchuk said. "He is looking forward to enjoying All Star Weekend. We will have nothing else to add on this."

The Nets and Nuggets recently renewed trade talks for Anthony for the third time this season. However, Anthony, who can became a free agent after this season, insisted twice Friday that no meeting was planned with Prokhorov.

Anthony wouldn't answer when asked about a New York Daily News report that he met with Madison Square Garden chairman James Dolan on Thursday.

The Nuggets have looked into trading Anthony since he declined to sign a three-year contract extension worth nearly $65 million this season. The Nets were close to a deal twice, and the New York Knicks are considered the other favorite to land Anthony if Denver decides to move him.

Anthony wants something to happen soon, but hasn't received any indication from Nuggets executive Josh Kroenke that it will.

"I believe that me and Josh have a good relationship. Since he became the owner, we've been talking a lot. The lines of communication have been open," Anthony said. "I do believe that if something was to break or happen, that he would call me or he would sit down with me and explain it."

Either team would have to give up a big portion of its roster to land Anthony.

"If anything was to happen with whatever team, of course, I would want a team to be able to compete with," Anthony said. "As far as all the players that's in the deal, that's supposed to be in the deal, yeah, that's a lot of players for one guy."

The Nuggets approached the Nets in the past week to see if they were still interested in acquiring the small forward, sources told ESPN.com.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Nets and Nuggets discussed a deal that would have sent point guard Devin Harris, rookie forward Derrick Favors, the No. 3 pick in the draft, others and at least three of the Nets' five first-round draft picks over the next two seasons to Denver for Anthony, point guard Chauncey Billups and others.

The Nets were close to a deal for Anthony in training camp and there was a 10-day span in January when the Nets and Nuggets appeared on the verge of pulling off a blockbuster 15- or 16-player, three-team deal with Detroit that would have brought Anthony to New Jersey.

When the deal lingered without resolution, Prokhorov ended the speculation in dramatic fashion, saying the lingering talks were hurting his team. He also cited the high price the Nuggets were seeking and his frustration with the public nature of the talks.

On Thursday, Prokhorov's spokeswoman insisted that Prokhorov had not changed his mind with the impending NBA trading deadline approaching.

Knicks All-Star Amare Stoudemire denied a report that he was against the reported deal for Anthony.

"I don't know where you heard that from. You didn't hear it from me," he said. "It's always a touchy topic because you don't want to offend anyone ... but Carmelo is obviously a friend. He's from New York, New York loves him."
