Likd Saddam, the Gaddafis aren't jihadist martyrs.

They want to hold on to power, and if that takes rivers of (not their) blood, so be it.

They might not specifically be "jihadists", but they are certainly all a tad crazy, IMO.

This will end badly. A cautionary civil war that will scare the remaining autocrats less, and cause some real change for the better.

Gadhafi hold whittled away as Libya revolt spreads

BENGHAZI, Libya – The scope of Moammar Gadhafi's rule in Libya was whittled away Wednesday as major cities and towns closer to the capital fell into the hands of protesters demanding his ouster. In Libya's east, now all but broken away, the opposition vowed to "liberate" Tripoli, where the Libyan leader is holed up with a force of militiamen roaming the streets

    ...

International alarm has risen over the crisis, and is sending oil prices soaring and European and other countries scrambling to get their citizens out of the North African nation. On Wednesday, oil prices hit $100 per barrel for the first time since 2008. Libya is the world's 15th largest exporter of crude, accounting for 2 percent of global daily output. Traders are worried the revolt could threaten Libya's oil production and spread to other countries in the region.

Pretty dumb statement considering he says he will go all Saddam and set the oil fields ablaze if it looks like his regime is going to fall.

I wonder if the BP - UK - Obama Triad is regretting their decision to get the Lockerbie bomber off in exchange for Libyan oil.

Gaddafi doesn't give a about his nation's resources, only in so far as it makes him richer.....for a while the M$M was praising Gaddafi for being more of a moderate as far as the nations in the region go...

What difference would doing anything differently make now?

    Explain fully.

    Last few days:
    - Ruling regime in Tripoli has been attacked by Warlord Haftar's armies
    - they just downed a military aircraft, not sure yet if Libyan or foreign
    - UN and "west" supposedly supports Tripoli government, but not really. US just retreated from Libya as they did not want to get involved
    - Haftar is mainly supported and financed by Saudi and UAE. They want control of their oil and Northern Africa
    - Russia is playing both sides right now, but quietly seems to be supporting Haftar as well, probably because they suspect he will win
    - West is clueless as usual and at the moment don't know what to do
    - Everyone wants Libya's oil as it's the cleanest purest in the world
    - Without a doubt thousands will die
    - Thanks Obama, thanks Hillary
