The dunk contest is f'ing lame and has been for over a decade.
...and he is damn right.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Toronto Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan vows he's finished competing in the NBA's slam dunk contest unless the myriad of props that dominated Saturday's event are eliminated.
“
I'm a dunker. Dunk contests, you go out there and dunk. I'm not into all the props and everything.
”
-- DeMar DeRozan
Asked Tuesday if he thinks he was robbed when he didn't reach the final of the compe ion, DeRozan replied, "I think so." Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers won by leaping over a car to edge Washington's JaVale McGee in the last round.
"I'm a dunker. Dunk contests, you go out there and dunk. I'm not into all the props and everything," DeRozan said at shootaround before Tuesday's game against Charlotte. "I try to come out with a creative dunk and do it and go from there. My fans liked it and you can see the reaction from a lot of people afterward.
"If there's a dunk contest next year I'll do it. But not no prop dunk contest."
A Los Angeles native and former player at Southern California, DeRozan says he was disappointed in how the contest played out in his hometown after spending extra time practicing and preparing creative dunks. He didn't include props such as the car, a stuffed toy and using an extra basket as other compe ors did.
DeRozan feels the extra elements cheapens the contest.
"I think a lot of people probably look at it like that. It seems that way when you watch it," he said. "This year I put thought into it. I practiced, had dunks ready and everything. It is what it is. I did it two years in a row. I'm good."
Asked if he would reconsider, DeRozan said he would only compete again if the All-Star game is held in Toronto or if the rules are changed to eliminate props.
"There's no telling what might happen next year," DeRozan said. "Somebody might use a trampoline."
The dunk contest is f'ing lame and has been for over a decade.
The two basket dunk was badass, but the rest of the prop stuff was trash. I still can't believe that ty ginger dunk was the winning dunk.
I halfway agree with him. The dunk contests use of props is pretty ridiculous. Just dunk the damn ball.
On the other hand, there are only so many ways to dunk a basketball. How else can you top someone elses dunk unless you make some sort of a rating scale of degree of difficulty. I think that would kill the spirit of the compe ion.
and he is still the third best dunker in the contest, regardless.
His show stopper one of the (if not THE) most impressive dunks that night. Should've made the finals.
smh...his second one was bad-ass and ONLY did it with one attempt.
They did a ing skit. The dunk contest died at that moment.
crofl
when that got little asian kid came out looking for his gay ass toy, I wanted to shoot myself and/or whoever it was that allowed that to occur in front of the thousands present and the millions watching from home
that dunk contest was unreal
I agree tbh..especially after McGee's of a mom came down acting like the ing queen.
DeRozan definitely had the best overall performance. Why the did Ibaka do such a weak second dunk when his first was such a monster though?
That whole fiasco was just sad. The bad-acting little kid, Cheryl Miller overdramatizing everything, and the fact that they actually stopped the clock so they could set up a ladder and dangle his stupid prop from the rim again...and then they're just like " it, we're the network, we can do what we want"
Eh.. it wasn't that bad... that said, DeRozan's dunks were amazing... what hurt him was his assist man took them several attempts to get it right...
Supposedly Ibaka was going to do a 360° from the free-throw line... had he made it to the final round...
The event organizers should just let all four dunkers perform 4 dunks... top combined score wins... that way the dunkers don't have to save their "best" dunk and then not even get the chance to showcase it...
Agreed.
Now that the rest of the discussion is out of the way, his complaints ring a little hollow when he waits until after he loses to make them.
He was asked. He answered.
I think he's right. I didn't tune in because its just boring to me, but had they done it with no props I think it just comes out better.
I haven't gotten pumped for the dunk contest since I was a kid. What's the ing appeal?! Dunks in general are WAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY too over hyped. Last time I checked it was still 2 points (yeah, I'm that guy)
If you ignore the car, that dunk was nothing. Davis tossed the ball up, and he caught it and dunked it. He did not take off from that far nor did he jump that high.
we all know it wasn't a contest but a coronation. even if he did a somersault with a half-twist and stuffing it going opposite... he still will not win. no one else is.
I agree 100%. Dunk contest has become a joke with the props.
derozan robbed, but ibaka came weak with that toy biting dunk
half the blame goes to the league for their WWE antics, the other half of the blame goes to the player itself for not going hard enough.
