The Spurs are fine. All they need is a veteran SF, who can be an insurance policy, a la Quinn at PG. Also, they don't have trade assets (since, short of it being a no brainer type trade, I can't imagine any of their top eleven players being available).

Their deadline acquisitions are already on the team: Splitter and Anderson. Splitter is the additional big and Anderson is the additional wing that so many clamor for. They're better than what the Spurs could do trade-wise and even if they could slightly upgrade either for this season, it's not worth creating another hole elsewhere, risking upsetting team chemistry and giving up two guys who could potentially help them this season and definitely help them beyond this season.

Dice and Splitter combine to make a pretty decent backup center and there's no reason not to expect improvment from both of them going forward. Not sure how center is a need at this point.

We just need a backup defensive SF. I don't think we need a big at all unless of an injury but then again we still have Splitter for that.

It' amazing how the west has weaken in less than a year.

Utah has lost Boozer, Williams and Sloan.
Roy and Oden are done for Portland.
    Denver has traded Melo.
Phoenix has lost Stoudamire and Richardson.

4 of the 8 last playoffs teams are significantly weaker than last year. Only 4 teams (Lakers, Spurs, Mavs and Thunder) are legit. If these 4 teams keep the 4th first spots, they should have a relatively easy first playoffs round.

Regardless of the record, I think the front office is thinking of three things:

Should they give more minutes to Splitter so he can develop more before the playoffs??

Should they forget about splitter and think of him as a summer project a la RJ, try to go to the playoffs with the same rotation???

Or still make splitter a summer project, try to get another big for those tough matchups in the playoffs????

UPDATE: According to sources of CBS Sports' Ken Berger, Wallace is heading to Portland.

"Package for Wallace believed to be centered around Andre Miller," he added. "Marcus Camby was discussed, but he might retire rather than report to Charlotte."

ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard is calling the talks between the teams "serious" at this juncture.
