    TBH, the officiating was strange
I think this is an apt description.

What's baffling to me is how the NBA could assign that crew to that game, given that it involved 2 of the top 4 teams in the West.

Jason Phillips, who was the crew chief, is not a full time chief; he's only served as a chief in about 1/3 of the games he's called this year. He's also only been involved in 9 playoff games in his career. That's 9 more playoff games than either of his comrades, Matt Boland and Mark Lindsay, have called. So, you had a post-All Star break game involving two teams who are battling for HCA and division les called by 3 guys who likely won't have much involvement in the 2011 playoffs.

    Do. Not. Get.

I remember the days when Spurstalk thought Parker was unclutch.
I think he mostly got that rep from Game 6 of the 2003 finals when he couldn't hit the broadside of a barn and Speedy Claxton came to save the day. Ever since then he's been money.

That was a great shot from TP with the game on the line. Biggest shot of the game IMO.

You can give some of the credit for that shot to RJ. I was thinking that the shot clock had re-set, and I think Tony was too. Jefferson saw that the shot clock was running down and called out to Tony. Heads up by RJ, and clutch shot by Parker.

The officiating was poor in this game, and I thought it hurt the Spurs. Manu got frustrated and started trying to force the refs to blow their whistles. He's done it on other occasions, and it's never worked out well for him. In the third quarter, especially. Durant threw a wicked elbow into Manu's chest, and knocked him to the floor. (That one was no flop.) Then with the space he created, Durant knocked down an easy 3-pointer. Manu started trying to make him pay for that play, and things got ugly. Sometimes Manu does make people pay, but I thought he sort of lost his compusure a bit this time.

I was really worried that someone was going to get seriously injured tonight, and the refs were inviting it with their unwillingness to blow whistles. RJ got flattened by (I believe) Ibaka, coming across the middle. It looked like a shot you would see in a football game. I'm glad we got out with the W, and I'm glad we got out relatively healthy.

Reason people hated on TP in '05 was because he'd just finished choking against LA in '04.

Tony went through a period where he was unclutch and there's no disputing that. You can accept that or delude urself into thinking otherwise.

Looked up Bball reference to back up what I was saying re TP being unclutch in '04. He went a combined 11/41 (26%) in the last two games of the series. He had a horrible game 3 too.

Combine this with his epic '03 meltdown and peeps were more than justified in being skeptical about TP in 05.

It's no fun if you steal the punchline.

Ah I forgot about that series (0.4 made me repress it). It was crazy because he kicked so much ass in Games 1 and 2 and then in Game 3 Karl Malone started with his whole "put his ass on the floor" routine and TP completely wilted, stopped driving the lane etc. That was bad but he's definitely become a man since then. Christ he had just turned 22 at that time, hard to remember how young he started.
