I believe the team has options on him next two seasons for the minimum -- after that he'd be a restricted free agent.
Do the Spurs have to wait a certain amount of time before they can extend his contract? Or do he have another yr before the current one is up?

Isnt he singed for 3 years ?
Neal signed a 3 year deal and according to the current CBA 3yr contracts can't be extended. But, there's a new CBA coming so that might change things.
If he stays playing like he has, god damn that contract is awesome.
That's my point. Someone else offers him a Hugh ass contract the spurs can't match. They need 2 pay that man.
They can't until he is a restricted free agent. They should have plenty of money available then.
Thanks guys. Isn't he our lowest paid player?
How in prophetic was our front office for giving him a 3-yr guaranteed deal?
And how pissed is Gary he signed it
why would he be pissed? Its not like anyone else was offering him anything. In fact, I bet he is overjoyed to not only be in the NBA, but being on the league leading team no less.
After a couple years of wandering around Euro leagues, a bird in the hand with the best team in the NBA is better than playing across the pond.
Look on the bright side -- he'll be great for another year and a half, then Pop will bench him & put him in his doghouse in order to reduce his re-sign value
He signed it, we Neal with it.

The Spurs signed him to a 3 year contract when many on the board (even Timvp) questioned his worth. Gary is probably very happy to be a given a chance and to be respected, and the Spurs are obviously happy to have a player that has been very much a part of their successful start.
While Splitter sits on the bench not doin anything gettin millions! Boy life ain't fair.
Watch the end of his OTL video. He's happy playing behind Manu forever according to him. Wasn't his reasoning for going to NBA to be near family now that he's married? He could easy make this type of money in Europe where he was the leading scorer in Italian league...
And Splitter is probably wishing he'd stayed in Europe at this point.
only the first year is guaranteed. and why the should he be pissed? his phone wasn't ringing off the hook with nba teams stumbling over themselves to sign him up.
best bang for the buck in the NBA
Nobody thought Neal could make it in the NBA because of his size and lack of athleticism. The Spurs then gave him a chance and now hes a heavy rotation player on the best team in the league, and you think hes pissed about his contract?
He probably smiles a little about it wondering if he could have done better. But I doubt he is in anyway pissed or upset. Hes home in the states, playing big minutes and winning. The money will be there with time.
