A ing VRWC Cato stink tank arguing AGAINST people trying to throw off their oppressors?

iow, UCA unions should get back to work rather than trying to fight back against the VRWC's power grab and suppression of their rights.

    the 2nd, 3rd paragraphs

"Once the current revolutionary fervor in the Middle East has subsided, it is quite likely that contrary to hopes (of liberal democracy) and fears (of rise of the Islamists), the final outcome will instead resemble the post-1848 scene in Europe"

iow, the m/e revolutions could, like 1848 Europe, end up in with the bad guys (definition: not US-oilco-friendly) re-establishing themselves more oppressively than before.

Which is exactly Yoni's point about all them turning into theocratic Iran. What's Yoni's solution for stopping it?

What happens, happens. It's THEIR countries. It's THEIR oil fields.

The results may not be in US oilcos' interests, but it. How many 1000s of US military and $Ts are we, aka taxpayers being impoverished by the oilco-financed VRWC, supposed to waste so the UCA oilcos can gouge us into poverty?

Oddly enough if you read the article, the author actually credits unions specifically in a mildly favorable way, in that they formed part of the bulwark that kept Eastern Europe from sliding into chaos.

It is an interesting article. Not sure if I agree with everything in it, but it was interesting.

I saw but I don't think unions and guilds as source of stability and as countervailing source of power to the oligarchy was his main point, which I think is "love the devil you know, rather than the devil you don't"

If Mr Hadar thinks the uprisings might fail, that is not the same as saying they ought not to have taken place, just that favorable results aren't guaranteed.

    Well, couldn't they?

What led you to think so? I didn't see that at all.

Again, reference to specific statements in the OP would be helpful. Your take seems pretty freewheeling to me.

Basically, boutons is chiding Hadar for disclosing his pessimism about the future by analogy with the past.

(Uncharacteristic. boutons seldom takes up his cudgels for optimism and even seldomer makes optimism into a principle itself.)
