Damn, Skyrim looks slick. I gave my brother my 360, but maybe I'll get another for this and for Portal 2.
If your computer can handle it, get Skyrim for PC.... Not knocking consoles, I own almost all of them, but this is a game tailor made for PC, especially when it comes to mods.

If Portal 2 is a big consideration, the PS3 versions is by all reports going to be the most complete.

    Wat

So you're willing to buy an inferior version of a game just to make a point... and the net result is that you just give your money to a different mega-corporation?

Actually it would be the same one if I buy another 360, though I might look into a PS3 instead. I don't care about modding and no way I want to buy a new motherboard, CPU, power supply, RAM, video card, and on top of that a copy of dog Windows to get an extra 3 FPS.

    Could be worse.

Anecdote alert: I loaded a bunch of .mkv files onto my moms's Macbook last weekend. Clicking them just opened the Apple App store and options for a bunch of $39 video players. Obviously, I just went and downloaded VLC, but how many of the apple sheeple would know to do that?

In any case, I salute discretionary consumerism.

I saw some hilarious stuff on a thread on 4chan about charging for stuff. I was dying of laughter.

You are crazy if you buy Oblivion for console and you have a PC (that can run it). I am kicking myself for throwing away my gaming PC away right about now.

As good as Elder Scrolls is, PC mods take it to an entirely new level and extend the longevity tenfold.

    edit: I mean Skyrim.

If there's one thing Oblivion doesn't need, it's any more longevity. I think I played that game pretty consistently for 2 1/2 years after I bought it.

Agreed. I have almost 180 hours sunk in one Oblivion playthrough and one character build.

    I'm not looking for WoW.

I will say this. Oblivion runs like on 360 if it isn't installed to the HD. At the time and a couple years after it's release, that wasn't possible. Probably won't be as big a problem for Skyrim as many have upgraded their disc space by now and maybe it'll just run better anyway, but if not, people will suffer for it.

It sucked on ps3 as well. Now, I don't know if you can install games to your ps3, since I haven't had a ps3 for almost 2 years. I remember whenever I was wanted and in Cheydenhall, the game would run at an incredibly slow rate. It was basically running like a bunch of pictures.

most of the first page only lessened my enthusiasm and expectations, story sounds like typical overblown sequel crap, "things are so much more dire/grandiose/epic this time around
oh and I get to be the last of some special type of medieval jedi knight

all the different powers and ways to kill other people have been done, I had hoped that Bethesda wouldn't fall into that "awesome weapon" trap and would go after story, setting, atmosphere, etc.

also I hate arctic settings in video games
